It may take some time for that icon to show up but it's not necessary. When you are ready to upgrade to Windows 10, simply do the following.

1. Ensure everything is disconnected from your computer except critically necessary things (i.e. mouse/keyboard are necessary).
2. Reboot your machine in to a clean boot state by following the instructions in the link below.

3. Download the Media Creation Tool and run this to do the Windows 10 install. You don't have to wait for the icon to show up.

I'm glad you are activated again. You had issues with some services that needed repaired. Let me know if things appear to work better now.

Is there any other preparation I need to do for the Windows 10 upgrade? I will do a backup to be safe, but it won't be deleting any files or programs off my computer, correct?

I am still having the issue with Adobe Reader (trying to switch between documents from the taskbar leads to it not responding). Could this be related, or is it more likely a problem with Adobe Reader?
 
What I always do before an upgrade is to download the most current Windows 10 network card driver and video driver for my computer and save to my desktop. Then do the upgrade to Windows 10. After the upgrade, install the network card driver and then the video card driver.

I would suggest trying to Uninstall Adobe Reader and then re-installing the most current one. Let's see if you have the same issues after this. I personally use Foxit Reader instead of Adobe Reader but it's just a preference. I feel it's more secure and has less vulnerabilities.
 
And yes it will just be an upgrade so you won't lose anything. Just make sure when you are asked if you wish to save everything you answer yes.
 
I could also not uninstall Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. Error 2503: Called RunScript when not marked in progress.
 
Update: I was able to uninstall Adobe, Skype Click to Call, and Java by changing the permission settings of C:/Windows/Temp for my user
 
If your intent is to upgrade to Windows 10, let's do that first and then address any remaining issues. I believe these are permssions issues that should be resolved by the upgrade. Are you OK with this approach?

Question: That permission change I made (gave my user account full control), that is safe enough to leave as is?

I wouldn't mind help upgrading to Windows 10 because I haven't been able to successfully do so in the past. Would you be able to help me with this?

FYI I may be slower to reply over this afternoon because of deadlines but I will try to respond ASAP.
 
What is the exact path that you changed the permissions on? Was in C:\Windows\Temp or was it C:\Users\<username>\appdata\local or something else?

Absolutely I can help you upgrade to Windows 10. Let's clean up from the malware removal first though.

1. Clean Up!
We need to remove all the tools that we used so that should you ever be re-infected, you will download updated versions which may have updated detection logic.
1. Download Delfix from here.
2. Ensure everything is checked.
3. Click Run.
Note: The program will run for a few moments and then notepad will open with a log. Please paste the log in your next reply.
Note: Delete any other .bat, .log, .reg, .txt, and any other files created during this process, and left on the desktop and empty the Recycle Bin.

Okay, I ran Delfix, log posted above. I deleted all .bat, .log, .reg, .txt files. Can I also delete the .exe and .zip files (and then I will empty my Recycle bin)?

The upgrade should take care of that.

Hopefully you will be able to get on the internet after the upgrade. If not, you will need to download and install the newest network card driver. Other than that, you don't have to do anything else.

Last question (I hope):

1) When I check System Configuration, Selective startup is checked, and beneath it everything is checked, i.e. load system services and load startup items.

Should I leave this as is?
