Hi,

Ever since I upgraded my Surface Pro from Win8 to Win8.1, I start facing error code 0x80072f8f whenever I open my WinStore . Now, the WinStore is basically useless :banghead:. I have tried all sorts of ways that I found from other forums but still could not resolve. I hope someone can help me out.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Song.

Hello Song :)

I usually associate this error code with date and time issues actually. Please click on the time in the bottom right hand corner of the screen and check that both the date and time are correct.

A lot of forum has been advising me on that but after many times of checking, I still could not figure out what can be wrong with the date time. The date and time as of now when I am writing this reply is "Thur, 26 Dec 2013 8.08am" This is shown in the Clock App in one of my Active Tiles for Win8 Pro.

Is there any where else that I should check ?

Thanks.

Assuming your time is correct (including the time zone - make sure you have the correct time zone configured *and* time and date), it's probably best to go to the desktop Windows Update app and make sure everything there that's outstanding (if anything) is installed, and the device rebooted, before visiting the store to continue troubleshooting this error.

I have done that already but result is still the same.

The error is a date and/or time skew issue, so if your date and time is correct and your machine is fully patched, the error is either bogus or there's something about your machine that we don't understand yet or you aren't telling us. What antivirus product do you have installed, may I ask? We have seen this sort of issue here in the past:

Hi Cluberti,

I tried to highlight whatever I know or have done. I will not be able to tell you what I don't know. That's why I am seeking assistance to hope to get the truth out of the problem that I am facing. Appreciate a lot for all of you who is trying to help out.

I did not install any antivirus at all. I am using the standard antivirus that comeswith Win8Pro which is Windows Defender.

Thanks.

I agree with you that this error code has always been equate with Date and Time issue in most (if not all) of the forum sites that I have been visiting. But I also notice that it is all (if I am not mistaken) on previous versions of Windows (either XP or 7 or even Vista). But now I am ONLY encountering this error code in Windows Store and NO WHERE else. Hope this information helps.

Hi songwk! :smile9:
I don't know much about surface pro, like if you can use the command prompt; so, sorry if I'm writing something stupid :o1
Are you using Windows firewall?
Have you tried to launch wsreset, from the charm bar or the run window?
Have you tried to run sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt?
And, if it found anything corrupt, dism /online /cleanup-image /restore-health ?
Have you read this Troubleshoot problems with an app - Microsoft Windows Help ?
And tried this, from an elevated command prompt?
Code:
powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml

Hi Xilo,

I am trying out your suggestion as I respond now.

Yes, the Win8Pro standard Firewall is active.
Used the SFC /SCANNOW under administrator but nothing was found. Hence, I skip the DSIM command.
Tried the Powershell command but it keep giving an error message saying that my WinStore is active and cannot proceed. Can you guide me how to close off the WinStore app before I proceed with the Powershell command again ?

Thanks a lot in advance.

1) Move the pointer/cursor to the upper-left corner, it should show the opened apps, right click on the store app, close
2) Task manager, full view, right-click on store, end task

Thanks for the steps. After running the PowerShell, and then tried to start the WinStore, the Error Code still appear.

Just to be more precise, the below error message is shown :

"We Weren't able to connect to the Store. This might have happened because of a server problem or the network connection timed out. Please wait a few minutes and try again. (0x80072f8f)"

Btw, I am connected to the internet as I am responding to you and seeing the above error message.

Thanks a lot.

Have you tried to reset the win.store (see my first reply)?
Have you tried with the firewall disabled?
I get your same message with the firewall that blocks (almost) everything, except for the error code that shows as 0x80072efd.

I disabled the Firewall first and then followed by the following.

Tried multiple different combination :
1. Kill Store & Store Broker in Task Manager. Then run Powershell. Then Restart WinStore.
2. Kill Store & Store Broker in Task Manager. Then run Powershell. Then Reboot System. Then start WinStore.
3. Kill Store & Store Broker in Task Manager. Then run Powershell. Then run WSRESET.

All the 3 combinations still yield the same result of maintaining the Error Message in Win Store. :banghead:

From command prompt, run sc qc wsservice AND (later) sc queryex wsservice:

Should I run these command after I have run the Powershell ? Do I need to run the WSRESET first before coming to your latest suggestion ?

Thanks.

Those two commands have the purpose to check your wsservice (Windows store service) state.
They have nothing to do with the powershell command nor wsreset.

Another thing you can check is the number of files you have in the c:\windows\winstore folder.
