[SOLVED] Failed to install KB3061904 and KB3049563

OK, let's try to clean up. Please try the following.

Step#1 - Create Restore Point

1. Click your Start button.
2. Type restore point
3. Click on Create a restore point
4. When the System Properties screen comes up, click the Create button at the bottom of the screen.
5. Name it BeforeFix or something else appropriate and click Create.

Step#2 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

I actually have an idea of something I'd like to try before doing the previous step. If you already did it, no worries just let me know. I'll post new instructions right now.

Let's do this instead. If you already did the previous step then just stop and let me know before doing this step.

Excellent. Let's try installing the update from the downloaded copy again. Let's see what has changed if anything.

Step#1 - Install KB3049563 from the Downloaded copy
Please manually download and install from the link below. If you still have this downloaded you may use that copy. Let me know if it works.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=47096

If it doesn't work, please provide the following log. Thanks.

Before I do this I notice that KB3049563 is not in the update list - see screen dump - what do you suggest?
(BTW the insert image option is only fully functional when choosing advanced)

Thank you for being so conscientious. No, we don't want to try installing that. Please ensure only the following update is checked in Windows Update and see if it will install. KB3062760.

The download and install stayed on 0% the whole night - I forced a restart and found that two updates remained - one Skype (optional) and the other KB3058515 !!!
I will try the install now and see what happens....

Actually I think you are good to go!! KB3058515 is a known issue from the recent batch of updates. There are people all over having the same issue. So I don't believe this has anything to do with your previous issues. I would just wait on this one for a couple weeks until Microsoft gets it resolved.

Windows Update KB3058515 Installation Fails with Error 80092004 on Windows 7 - Softpedia

I have to say that I've helped ~150 people and this was one of the toughest. Take care.

Thanks BrianDrab - do you suggest that I mark the update hidden? if so how do I do that? Or shall I just uncheck the update each time?

I personally don't like hiding updates. If you forget it will always remain hidden and never be installed. I would just leave it unchecked for the next couple weeks until this gets resolved. If it's not resolved by then feel free to come back. Because of the amount of people having issues I think they will do an update to this fairly soon though.
