HP Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium x64, have run CHKDSK, SFC, CheckSUR, made sure all IE11 prerequisite KB's were installed, ran SFCfix, ran the windows update built in troubleshooter, ran an online fixit related to the error code. Seem to have some corrupt .dll files in the winsxs folder but not sure if SFCfix is seeing all the issues. Here is the contents of the CBS folder in a 7zip container as it provided the best compression, rename .zip to .7z before decompression, or just open with 7zip. The corrupted files seem to be related to Visual Studio 2008 but that product is no longer installed as it was a part of an old AVG installation? Thanks for any help you can provide. Cheers!

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Let's see what we can do. I would like a fresh log. Please do the following.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.

Log looks good. Now, let's do the following.

Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

According to the SUR and SURpersist logs there are no problems, tried to run Windows Update again and still have an error code: 9C59.

Should we now start to investigate the Windows Update logs?

Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems

Download size: 56.3 MB

and

Skype for Windows desktop 7.3 (KB2876229)

Download size: 43.6 MB

(No hidden updates)

OK. Please zip up and attach the following two logs.
c:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log
c:\windows\ie11_main.log

Also, if you haven't already please uninstall IE9.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 9
  • Click the Start button, type Programs and Features in the search box, and then click View installed updates in the left pane.
  • Under Uninstall an update, scroll down to the Microsoft Windows section.
  • Right-click Windows Internet Explorer 9, click Uninstall, and then, when prompted, click Yes.
  • Click Restart now to finish the process of uninstalling Internet Explorer 9.

Thanks for the info. I will need some registry hives to look further.

Retrieve Components/Software Hives
Note: The Software have has confidential and sensitive information in it so please send me a PM with a link to that particular hive so it's not in the public form.
  • Please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products
You will find it at the bottom of the page that the link brings you to.
  • Go ahead and install this program and accept all the defaults. After the last install screen the program should open.
  • Click the New Backup button. Accept the defaults and simply click Start.
  • When it says Finished successfully, click the Close button.
  • This will bring you back to the main screen of the program. You will see one entry in this list with the date that you did it. Right-click on this line-item and select Explore Backup...
  • This will bring you into the folder where the backup was made. You should see a Users folder and a Windows folder along with a couple other files. Double-click on the Windows folder to open it. Then open the System32 folder and then config folder. You should see around 6 files in here, two of which are named COMPONENTS and SOFTWARE.
  • Copy these two files to your Desktop. If the COMPONENTS file does not exist, please fetch it instead from C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.
  • Now right click on these files on your desktop and select Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Then please upload the zip file(s) to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big to upload here). Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.
  • You can close any open windows you have as well as the RegBack program now.

Thanks. Please do the following.

1. Download IE9-Windows6.1-KB2957689-x64.cab.zip and save this to your desktop.
2. Right-click on the downloaded file and select Extract All...
3. Ensure "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click the Extract button
4. You can close the window that opens.
5. Click the Start button and type cmd in the search box.
6. Right-click on the cmd that comes up in programs and select Run as administrator. Click Yes to allow if the User Account Control dialog comes up.
7. Copy/Paste the following into the command-prompt window that is open. Note: You need to right-click the mouse in the command-prompt window and select paste in order to paste. You can't use the keyboard shortcuts.

dism.exe /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\IE9-Windows6.1-KB2957689-x64.cab\IE9-Windows6.1-KB2957689-x64.cab
