Hello,
Windows updates are not being received on my PC. I've ran a scan and uploaded my sfc log here.
Hopefully someone can help as it's been like this for 2 months now.
Thanks

Hi,
Thank you for replying.
Yes - I've used the sfcfix tool and the script to upload the log to the servers.
I should've been clearer.
Everytime I try and initiate an update, I just see the "Windows can't update important files and services while the system is using them. Save any open files and restart the computer, and then try to check for new updates."
Trust me I've restarted at least 100 times since this problem appeared. It's always the same issue.
Thanks for helping
- Did you run the "SFC Fix" tool ?
Download SFCFix - MajorGeeks
- If Windows Update keeps searching forever, then try this guide:
Solve Windows Update problem (High CPU & memory usage)

- Run the SFC Fix tool and post/attach the log in your next reply.
- Wait for someone who has more experience with this kind of problems.

Thank you Willy2.
I've ran it again and the final log is below:

Hello and Welcome!

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

SFC Scan

button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please zip and attach this to your next post.

Thank youzcomputerwiz for picking this up.
As requested see below.
The second part with the log file throws up an error when the copy command is pasted in.
It says "The syntax of the command is incorrect".

That's fine. Please zip and attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
You will have to copy it to another location (such as your desktop) before zipping.

If the zip is larger than 8MB please use a file sharing service such as OneDrive, DropBox, SendSpace, etc. and include the link with your reply.

Looks good :thumbsup2:

Let's reset the Windows Update components.

Run Windows Repairs
  1. Download Windows Repair (All-in-One) Portable to your desktop.
  2. Once the file is downloaded, right-click on the file on your desktop and choose Extract All...
    Extract.JPG
  3. Keep the defaults and click the Extract button.
  4. A folder named tweaking.com_windows_repair_aio will be extracted to the desktop. Once the extraction is complete the folder will open.
  5. Inside this folder, there is a folder named Tweaking.com - Windows Repair. Open this folder as well.
    Capture.JPG

  6. Double-click on Repair_Windows.exe to open. Note: Please make sure all of your programs are closed and anything you were working on is saved as we will be rebooting.
  7. When the program opens, click the Reboot to Safe Mode button at the bottom of the screen. Answer Yes to allow.
  8. Once rebooted into Safe Mode, open the program again. When the program opens, click the Repairs tab and click the Open Repairs button.
  9. A backup of your registry will be made. After a few moments you will have many options from which you can choose.
  10. Please click the Unselect All button and then click to enable only the following ones:

    17 - Repair Windows Updates

  11. Ensure the Restart check box is selected and click the Start Repairs button in the lower right of the screen. This may take some time to run so be patient.
    StartRepairsWithReboot.JPG
  12. Once the fixes are complete you will be prompted to restart your machine. Answer Yes.

Hi mate,
Thanks for the detailed instructions.
I've just followed them through.
Logged on as normal now and the problem is still there.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

Please zip and attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
If the zip is larger than 8MB, upload it to a file sharing service such as OneDrive, DropBox, SendSpace, etc. and include the link with your reply.

I don't see any error messages in the log, let's check something.

Please run regedit and navigate to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate
Click File and choose Export.
Give the exported key a name (like WindowsUpdate) and save it to your desktop.
Zip and attach this file with your reply.

Let's try the following:

After SFCFix has completed, restart and try checking for updates again.

Thanks mate.
Just tried that. Below is the log:

Looks like the key couldn't be deleted. Please restart Windows in Safe Mode and run the script again.

Thank you for everything so far.
Even in safe mode the same message comes up.
Is there anything else I can try?
Thanks

Modify Registry Permissions

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  3. In the left hand panel of regedit, you will see a list of registry keys. Navigate to the following key, right-click on it and select Permissions...:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update
  4. Click Advanced.
  5. Under the Owner tab, click Edit.
  6. Click "Other Users and Groups".
  7. Click Advanced.
  8. Click "Find Now".
  9. Scroll down and double click on Everyone.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Put the check in "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects", click Apply then change to the Permissions tab.
  12. Under type Deny, single click on any entries and click Remove. (N.B.: There may not be any Deny entries, in which case just ignore this step. Just remove any that do exist)
  13. Click Edit (now on the standard file Property window under the Security tab).
  14. Click Add.
  15. Click Advanced.
  16. Click "Find Now".
  17. Scroll down and double click on Everyone.
  18. Click OK.
  19. Single click on Everyone and then tick the "Full Control" box under Allow.
  20. Click OK TWO times.

Next, right click on the RebootRequired key and choose Delete.

Let me know if this produces an error message.
