Hey Guys,

Running into the windows update error that seems too common. Been working on a number of fixes but seems like this is the last resort.

Error: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932)

Tried the hotfix also the spk1 manual install but no luck. After viewing the checksur log I saw I was getting the Payload File Missing issues. Here is the log after running [FONT=&quot] [/FONT][FONT=&quot]sfc /scannow[/FONT][FONT=&quot] then SFCFix:

What is needed from the cbs folder, the attachment feature is not working, tried on chrome and firefox.

SFCFix Script

2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.

Let's check with SFC.

SFC Scan

1. Click on the Start
   
   button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each
   
   sfc /scannow
   
   Wait for this to finish before you continue
   
   copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
   
   
4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please zip and attach this to your next post.

Thanks, tried this a few times before updating after following sfcfix steps.

The file is too big to allow me to attach using this forum, here is a version where I removed the "CBS Extracting all files from cabinet" lines, let me know if those are needed. (890,000 lines)

Looks fine. Please try installing the update again, when it fails zip and attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
If the zip is larger than 8MB, use a file sharing service such as OneDrive, DropBox, SendSpace, etc. and include the link instead.

Let's try resetting the Windows Update Components.

Run Windows Repairs

1. Download Windows Repair (All-in-One) Portable to your desktop.
2. Once the file is downloaded, right-click on the file on your desktop and choose Extract All...
   
   
3. Keep the defaults and click the Extract button.
4. A folder named tweaking.com_windows_repair_aio will be extracted to the desktop. Once the extraction is complete the folder will open.
5. Inside this folder, there is a folder named Tweaking.com - Windows Repair. Open this folder as well.
   
   
   
   
6. Double-click on Repair_Windows.exe to open. Note: Please make sure all of your programs are closed and anything you were working on is saved as we will be rebooting.
7. When the program opens, click the Reboot to Safe Mode button at the bottom of the screen. Answer Yes to allow.
8. Once rebooted into Safe Mode, open the program again. When the program opens, click the Repairs tab and click the Open Repairs button.
9. A backup of your registry will be made. After a few moments you will have many options from which you can choose.
10. Please click the Unselect All button and then click to enable only the following ones:
    
    17 - Repair Windows Updates
    
    
11. Ensure the Restart check box is selected and click the Start Repairs button in the lower right of the screen. This may take some time to run so be patient.
    
    
12. Once the fixes are complete you will be prompted to restart your machine. Answer Yes.

Looks normal. Does Windows Update complete the check for updates and successfully install them?
The first check may take a very long time, it may be best to let it run overnight.

If an update fails to install, zip and attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log with your reply.

Hey,

Windows checks for updates fine then when I select the spk1 update it always fails. Seems to be some point in the install process after the download.

I don't see any error for the installation in the log.

Please try downloading the Windows 7 SP1 offline installer here: Download Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) from Official Microsoft Download Center

Install Update with DISM

1. Download the update MSU here: http://download.windowsupdate.com/m..._06b9b2ada3131a81b74ac652801c7b857df6a2d1.msu
2. Copy the MSU file to a convenient location (such as C:\temp).
3. Click on the Start
   
   button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
4. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
5. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each
   
   cd C:\temp
   
   replace C:\temp with your path if different
   
   expand {update name}.msu -f:* C:\temp
   
   replace {update name} with the name of the MSU file downloaded in step 1
   
   DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\temp\{update name}.cab
6. You should receive the message:
   The operation completed successfully.
7. Make sure to allow the computer to restart if prompted.
   
   If you receive any other message:
8. Right-click on the Command Prompt window and click Select All, this will invert all of the colours by selecting the text, now press enter. All of this text is now copied.
9. Paste (Ctrl+V) it into your next post, then please zip and attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log.

Go ahead and try SP1 again using the offline installer.
