[SOLVED] [Win7SP1 x64] sfc /scannow reports problems

OK, good. KB4012218 must have taken care of all that. So which program are you trying to run that is dependent on KB3033929?

It appears that they didn't account for monthly security rollups. The security rollups have superseded that update. If we look up the update on the Microsoft Catalog we can see that it was superseded.

So your options are as follows.
1. Contact ilok support and explain the issue. They are likely already aware of this and may have a workaround.
2. We can try to see how the program checks for the update and maybe trick it into always working.
3. You can uninstall KB4012218, install KB3033929 and then turn off windows updates so no more updates install until ilok publishes a solution to the problem.

That's related to what I'm suggesting in my Option#2. Let's try the following.

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Do whatever you do to cause the error that tells you it won't work because the update is not installed.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as you get that error. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and attach the LogFile.PML file.

Thanks.

Shortly before your last post, I had an ILok update, which did not work. Then, I did the trick described in my original KB3033929 post. Now, I cannot reproduce the problem at the moment, but it always reoccurs. Could it be that the KB3033929 will be automatically removed from the list of installed hotfixes by the scavenging process of Windows because it is already included in the newer rollup patch?

Correct.

Correct. The Security Monthly Quality rollups supersede the update so the KB number is no longer available to check for existence.

Here is what I wrote to PACE support:
I'd like to inform you that the check for KB3033929 in the installer is flawed as this patch is also included in the monthly rollup patches which superseed the original KB3033929, which might not be listed as installed even if it is by a later patch.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Please see the iLok.com Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section for further help on your question. The following link will take you there.

Note the section titled "iLok License Manager > Why am I getting an error message saying that Windows 7 is not up to date?" for further information on your question. Note that we indicate "update KB3125574 or update KB3033929".

How to explain it to them?

I delayed KB3033929 back in 2015, because it caused a lot of troubles on many machines.
Just had a thought. Is this update hidden on your Windows Update screen? I'm assuming back in 2015 you hid the update.

I would respond with the following.

"I've already read the FAQ before I sent the information. I understand that you need either KB3033929 or KB3125574. Many Windows 7 machines won't have KB3125574 because they kept their machines up to date and don't have a need for the convience rollup. In addition there are users (me included) that hid KB3033929 when it initially came out in March of 2015 because of the reported issues it was causing. Updates since then have superseded this update (i.e. the Monthly Quality Rollups). In my case I installed the rollups. Most recently I installed the March one (KB4012218). So my machine is completely up-to-date however I don't have either of the updates you are looking for installed. So I don't think your logic works for all scenarios. What can I do?"
