Hi Oliver,

Let's have another go at this:

Command Prompt

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    takeown /f C:\Windows\Speech\Engines\SR\en-GB\l2057.ngr

    icacls C:\Windows\Speech\Engines\SR\en-GB\l2057.ngr /grant administrators:F

    takeown /f C:\Windows\SysWOW64\NlsLexicons000f.dll

    icacls C:\Windows\SysWOW64\NlsLexicons000f.dll /grant administrators:F

  4. Right-click on the Command Prompt window and click Select All, this will invert all of the colours by selecting the text, now press enter. All of this text is now copied.
  5. Paste (Ctrl+V) it into your next post please.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the attached file, SFCFix.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.txt - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFC.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

Hi Oliver,

That's excellent, the permissions and ownership are now fully sorted. We have cleared out all of the SFC errors now but one still remains in the CheckSUR log which could prove a little harder to solve.

Would you mind explaining what you meant by this please:

I think it was the kb:2670838 that is couldn't find. I was thinking that it was trying to uninstall something that it didn't find. But now I wonder. All I can remember is the box popping up and file not found.

Hi Oliver,

Can you run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again please? Post the log when it finishes:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Hi Oliver,

Sorry for the confusion. One of the logs you provided us with is a CheckSUR log which is created when the System Update Readiness Tool is run so I assumed you had run it.

Yes, that's the one. If you have lost the link, here it is again:

Download: System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [February 2013] - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details

Double click on the file to run it then when it finishes, upload the log please:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Hi Orogle,

I'm so sorry for the late reply, I completely forgot to reply to this. Are you still having these problems? Your CheckSUR log is showing problems that are quite easy to fix.
