Hello,
I have the same problem jherrera1004 : windows update error code 80070246
I tried the microsof tool for restoring windows update, but still pointing to that he had corrected the errors the problem persists.
I also have scanned for malware, I deleted the update history, but nothing, always the same error.

Tom982, would you be so kind as to help me to solve the problem?
I uploaded the file Checksur at the following link: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B3uf3H5OgTAad3Y2dGpGYjVKcU0/edit?usp=sharing
and the file Components at the following link : https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B3uf3H5OgTAaZW5nZVQzLVA5cTA/edit?usp=sharing

I hope you're kind enough to help me, because I'm going crazy behind this problem!
Thank you very much!

Hello Fausto!

Your corruptions look like they should be fixable with a bit of planning & a couple of posts, but my concern lies in how they got there. I don't see the sort of corruption classically caused by a blip/one off failure, but more the possible symptoms of hardware failure. How old is this machine?

Please test your RAM first: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/hardware-tutorials/3909-test-ram-memtest86.html

Then please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products

Navigate to C:\Windows\RegBak\{Date}\ and copy the COMPONENTS file to your Desktop. If the COMPONENTS file does not exist, please fetch it instead from C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.

Now right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.

Then please upload it to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big for here). If you have a Microsoft Account, SkyDrive could be a good choice: https://skydrive.live.com/, but any other will do just fine. Make sure to set the file as publicly accessible.

Then send me a link to the file.

Thank you!

Richard

Hello Richard,
I thank you for your attention dedicated to me.

My machine is new! I had trouble ram last week, with many unexpected reboots and blue screens of windows! Memtest pointed out to me that the ram was defective.
I replaced the ram with two new modules Corsair Vengeance 2X8 GB DDR3, I tested the new ram and memtest did not mention any problem.

The windows update error started after clearing the contents of the folder "SoftwareDistribution", I deleted everything because I was not able to install two updates, I read in a guide to delete the contents of "SoftwareDistribution"! But I know that I've done quite a mess!
Now, I've uploaded, the file "COMPONENTS" generated by Google Regbak in my drive at this link:

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B3uf3H5OgTAaUXFMdElJTEpwVXc/edit?usp=sharing

Just click on file and then download.

Thank you!!

Hello again :

That's good news on the RAM front in some ways though. I definitely saw RAM like hardware failure in the logs, and since those corruptions will have come from the old sticks of RAM, there's nothing to worry about now. In many ways, it's much more important for me to pick up on the root cause than it is actually to fix the symptoms. Now that I know there is no root cause to worry about here, I can get on with fixing the corruptions :)

As for the SoftwareDistribution folder, don't worry, that was a really good thing to try! It fixes a lot of problems. OK, so it didn't fix this one, but it's always worth trying. And don't worry, it definitely didn't *cause* the problem. The two just happened to happen at the same time - nothing more than a coincidence.

And I'm really sorry for asking for the COMPONENTS hive when you had already uploaded it. I got so ingrossed in looking over your CheckSUR.log & planning what will be quite a complicated fix that I completely forgot you had already uploaded it. Please accept my apologies.

Now, I just need a little bit of time to put together the fix (you have quite complicated corruptions - but don't worry, I actually really enjoy this sort of complexity! I deal with the simple & repetitive day in-day out, the really rare and challenging fixes like yours which stretch the mind are the best!)

Richard

Thanks Richard!
You are great! : D
If it can serve before the problem I tried to install itunes 64 bit (i have windows 7 64bit) but the installation gave me an error.

So expect to hear from you!
Thank you so much
Fausto

Hello again :)

Thanks for letting me know about iTunes. It is very important that you let me know about anything like this, just as you did, in case it is relevant, but here I believe that the problems are separate. I'll deal with the Windows Update issue first & the iTunes issue at the end. But thank you for letting me know :)

Please note that this script will reboot your computer. Save all open work first :)

WARNING: This fix has been created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do not follow these instructions as you may cause serious harm to your computer.

Download a copy of SFCFixScript.zip attached to this post, and save it to your Desktop.
Then download a copy of SFCFix.exe from here: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/downloads/sfcfix/, and also save it to your Desktop.
Single click on SFCFixScript.zip and drag and drop it on top of SFCFix.exe. SFCFix will open and perform a fix for your corruptions.
A logfile called SFCFix.txt will open (and be saved to your Desktop). Please copy and paste the report into your next reply.

I then want you to re-run the System Update Readiness Tool & upload a new CheckSUR.log.

Thank you!

Richard

Ok Richard!
I ran your instructions, below the report of SFCfix , the log of CheckSUR failed to allegarloal post, the puoiscaricare from this link:

There are already five minutes windows update is in "Search for updates", it seems a good sign, because sooner returned after a few seconds the error.

Let's hope so!

Thank you very much for the help you gave me!
I'll let you know as soon as windows update says something: D

This forum really deserves a donation;)

Personally, I couldn't possibly agree more.
There is an incredible amount of seriously hard and technical work performed here by many talented experts to help the members of this forum.
The level of skill and patience exhibited here by these talented professionals is unsurpassed anywhere.
I've donated in the past and will continue to do so.... just for the privilege of membership and the opportunity to watch these guys work and of course learn something myself in the process.

Nothing to do now gives me a new error code:
error 80070002

I'm reading on the microsoft site that in case of error 80070002, recommend to delete the files in C: \ Windows \ SoftwareDistribution \ DataStore and in C: \ Windows \ SoftwareDistribution \ Download

What do you say I do? and try again?

I followed the guide microsoft, but it does not work.

I rerun the System Update Readiness Tool and find an error, below the log:

That's great news! In the second CheckSUR.log, any (f) line followed immediately after by a (fix) line is a fixed pair. Any (f) line on its own is a fatal error. When you posted the third CheckSUR.log, it no longer detects the earlier errors, leaving just the one remaining (f) line. So, I've managed to fix all but one error: that's not bad! We may not be done yet, but I've very pleased with our progress for just the first fix.

Please run this next SFCFixScript & upload the logfile. It will not fix the problem, but should help me to fix the problem.

Thank you!

Richard

Richard, I ran the SFCFixScript, but they are already more than 10 minutes and still has not finished. It 's normal? in the window (cmd) there is' written: Please be patient, this directive may take several minutes to complete.
Appearance another 5 minutes and then shut down and restart.

I'm really sorry about that. I shall look into what caused it. Please upload another COMPONENTS hive instead.

Richard

Thanks for that!

Please run this next SFCFixScript and post the log & then a new CheckSUR.log & then retest Windows Update.

Thank you :)

I re-run windows update, but still setsso error.
I thank you again for the help and patience that you're paying, but I know that it is more complicated than expected.

Hello again :)

Something somewhere always finds a way of going wrong :p But we shall persevere & light shall prevail over the forces of corruption! We shall bring out our army & slay the mightly hoard of RAM corruption! It will know no mercy, and we shall not rest until only fluttering banners cause motion on this great battleground. Stick with me and a hard fought victory will come at last to us, and it will be recorded in history.

Right, my upload arrived corrupt (oh the irony!). That is why SFCFix didn't do anything in that logfile, as it couldn't open the .zip file. I shall try again. Please run this SFCFix script.

Thank you!

Richard
