Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

Please also do the following:

Step#1 - FRST Scan
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right click to run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please copy and paste log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also paste that along with the FRST.txt into your reply.

Uninstall the following before you attempt to upgrade again:

Registry Trash Keys Finder (Freeware)
SlimCleaner
Spybot - Search & Destroy

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

Unfortunately it didn't seem to help :( What changed is that this time installation went a bit slower and got to 21% before giving me the error. Any other logs I could provide that might help?

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

So it did help. Did you free up some space?
OK, did you get the same error? I need you to do the following again:

Please zip and attach C:\Windows.~bt\Sources\Panther\SetupAct.log and SetupErr.log.

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

I did free up some space (going to around 26gb), do you think much more would be needed? Would be kind of tough for me since its a small drive but I could try sending files to another drive. I did get the same error (Windows 10 installation has failed).

I have attached the file. Thanks!

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

That should be enough.

1. Click your start button and type cmd in the search box.
2. Right-click on cmd that comes up in the search results and select Run as administrator. Answer Yes to the UAC prompt if it appears.
3. Copy/Paste the following into the command-prompt window and hit enter.
reg query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WIMMount /s >1.txt && notepad 1.txt

4. Notepad will open showing some info. Can you copy and paste this into your next reply?

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

Just wanted to update on this, I was getting the error mentioned in the first post. But when I update not from the ISO but from the Windows Update assistant or from the Windows Update settings section (Feature update to Windows 10, version 1709), now I get error 0x80070003 and it says "Some update files are missinng or have problems. We'll try to download the update again later".

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

Can you do that again and then attach C:\Windows.~bt\Sources\Panther\SetupAct.log and SetupErr.log.

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

I have attached the zip file with bot SetupAct.Log and SetupErr.Log. Also, I noticed that when using the Windows Update Assistant , the update went well up till 84% downloaded and then it mentions something went wrong and the error code 0x80070003.

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

When time permits, please do the following:

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Attempt the Windows 10 upgrade just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as the upgrade fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and attach the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log.

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

Software, I wanted to ask, do I do that with the ISO when it stops at 21% or with the Update Assistant when it stops at 84% downloading?

Also I wanted to mention with the Update Assistant now I get a different error code for some reason.. 0x80072ee2.

I had contacted microsoft support, one technician mentioned I couldnt update from 1511 to 1709 directly so I had to go to 1607 first, but exactly same error happened when using the ISO and at the same %. Another one mentioned "I checked the manufacturer support page and unfortunately our device were not part that have been tested to run the latest Windows 10 version"

What do you think about that, and should I just stick to 1511 because this might be tougher than expected? Or could I maybe get to 1709 through a W10 clean install or would that be sort of a gamble since we aren't sure it would work?

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

From the iso would be best.
That techician is wrong. Windows 10 upgrades are cumulative, so you can update from whichever version to whichever.

Clean install should be done only as a last resort and we ain't there yet.

Re: [W10 Pro v1511] Installation has failed for update v1511 to v1709

Thank you for your answer. I tried to run the ISO together with Process Monitor but something strange happens. When it says making sure you have enough disk space, it takes much longer than before and at one point my computer totally crashes, meaning all programs get frozen and I have to manually restart my PC.
