Go ahead and restore all the files from the 2/7/18 backup to their original locations in c:\windows\system32\DriverStore . So they should restore and overwrite the files within this directory. Let me know when complete.

I wasn't able to restore the repository but all files in it were older. Temp had a directory with yesterdays date but all files were older. I have the entire driverstore on my desktop

unless I restore the entire hard disk I would get access problems on the sub directories

Do you have your Windows 7 media so we can do a repair install? It shouldn't affect your data or programs so don't worry about that.

yes I do. That is how the .dat files were copied I used cmd mode

OK, I suggest you try a repair install. You won't be booting to your media, you will simply put it in your machine and run the setup from there. Please review and then follow the steps below. Let me know if you have any questions during this process.

I finished the repair install and updated 32 drivers. I then updated 250 patches and the only error so far was for kb982670 which is an update for net client. I have hidden it and everything seems OK. Microsoft does not even offer kb4074598 through the regular download. Do you still want me to try the install of the standalone

Those updates appeared again when I took it out of clean boot. I will still do a bit of testing and will let you know the outcome. Please do NOT close this yet

kb4074598,kb4076492, and kb4055532 installed successfully after the install. The only failure was kb982670. Microsoft had offered kb4074598 but it was late in appearing.
