BSOD and MMC not working, cannot update, 4 blank icons in control panel

Stephen, I had another BSOD this morning, i followed your instructions above but i do not see a minidump folder in windows/temp. I typed in minidump on the start menu and there is a minidump folder located in firefox/profiles/aurrvt2j.default/minidump, but it is empty. Would it be called something else in the temp folder? I have not done any cleaning since you said not to. Haven't heard from anyone since Monday, I know you are all busy and I really appreciate any help. Thanks much!

Sorry for the slow reply dshakra, the directory you will need to check for any saved Minidumps is:

Code:
C:\Windows\Minidump

Yes, as mentioned I found above, i did find it, just not in the temp folder, the minidump folder is empty. I looked for it right after the BSOD and there was nothing in it.

Hey there,

Please check for a file called MEMORY.DMP in the C:\Windows\ folder. This will be a big file. Please zip it up and then upload it to a free file sharing site. I recommend dropbox for this. Post a link to this in your next post.

Stephen

would you know why in I have 2 "Run" folders in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run ? One of them says in perentheis (disabled by server)

OK then, we'll have to check some settings :-)

Click Start --> Right click Computer --> Properties --> Advanced System Settings --> Under "Startup and Recovery" click settings --> Under "Write Debugging Information", ensure Kernel Memory Dump is selected --> Ok --> OK --> Reboot your system.

Now, Windows should produce a dump when it next BSODs.

Since I don't have any dumps to go by atm, can you just do a very simple hardware test please? We might as well spend the time productively!

RAM - Please run Memtest86+ to check your RAM. A tutorial on how to do this is available here: Test RAM With Memtest86+ - Sysnative Forums

Regards,
Stephen

That is one of things that also doesn't work. When i right click properties, it flashes the box very quickly then goes away, i have noticed several other things doing that as well.

Stephen, how long should i let the memtest run? I'm not sure how to interpret, I'm on pass 44% now, i can let it go for a while if need be. So far, 0 pass, 0 errors.

Memtest needs to run until at least 8 passes have completed. This normally takes all night to complete. There should be am image in the tutorial to help you work out which pass you're on.

Hello again :)

Can you take a screenshot of any of these CLSID errors? I wonder whether this is a permissions issue (which if it is might be easily fixable, but I don't yet know that it is that). Ideally, can you also copy and paste an example exact CLSID with this problem too from some error message somewhere, if possible?

Thank you!

Richard

Hi Richard, results from my memtest, I did 9 passes, 0 errors.

The CLSID error message is below, this was when i reinstalled my BB desktop manager, and it basically said the same thing when I tried to repair outlook (both issue with BB and outlook happened when all the other stuff appeared to not working), the installation to oulook basically said the same thing. When i went to the registry editor to look at that particular key, i clicked on it to try and change permissions, but it would allow me to even view (An error is preventing this key from being opened in registry.[FONT=&quot]Permissions the requested security info is either unavailable or can’t be displayed), so i tried to open several keys above that one and below that one, there must of been 50+ keys that all said about the same thing. [/FONT]

CLSID error when installing BB and outlook:

error 1406 could not write value to key |CLSID\{cd5da7be=393d-422c-818c-1273327c23c5}\inprocserver32. verify you have sufficient access to that ke y.

Pretty sure this all happened after a couple of windows updates, and a java install. I couldn't go back in and do a restore or delete the updates because that's one of the things i can't access. its seems like all the administrative things are unacessible.

Thanks for that! Well, I'll do a repair job on CLSID permissions and we'll see what effect that has :)

Please note that this is a multipart fix and you won't notice an immediate improvement after just this post (this post is investigative, next one hopefully a repair job)

Hopefully Richard can fix those errors for you, and the sad face would have probably got included by default by the forum software, for example if you type : ( without the space then it automatically adds a sad face.
