[SOLVED] cannot create system restore point after defragmentation

checked the services and made sure that the four services were started and set to automatic start then restarted the computer and ran the cmd vssadmin list writers and got the same message as in no#55

Re-try msconfig:

  • go to startup tab, click enable all, click apply
  • go to services tab, untick hide all Microsoft services, click enable all, click apply
  • go to general tab, select normal startup, click apply/ok
  • reboot Windows

If it still shows "selective startup", re-try those steps.

Xilolee you bad, bad, bad, mamma jamma to my amazement after I completed your request I tried to do a system restore and it worked ,I manually was able to do a system restore, you are a genius and a go getter.Your persistence is what sets you apart from most people even highly intelligent people. I am blessed with that same character that is why it is easy for me to see it in others who are blessed with the same gift. I cannot express in words my appreciation and excitement how you tackled and overcame this perplexed computer problem I had. Kudos to you Xilolee donations are the right thing for me to do, I freely received so I should freely give. Amen, and I will keep in touch with you my computer tech from Italy.

Xilolee do I have to keep my startup in msconfig this way or can I now go back and have only the important items selected on start up. Your name Xilolee I have no clue on how to pronounce it or what gender it is, me being an american we don't see a name like this often, so to address you properly is your name male or female no disrespect is intented

Does the sfc tool work now?

Xilolee is just a nickname, I thought I invented a unique nickname but instead later I discovered there are other Xilolees... :thud:

I'm male.

Now I can say dude you did a great job my man. Carl is my first name and the A is the first letter of my last name . Now can i tweak my start up in msconfig and use the auto run to have only certain programs run on start up

Uhm, I think you should leave ms services to their default status at least until sfc will work.
Now you can resume your troubleshooting with BrianDrab, in your other Windows update thread.

By the way, after you'll solve also the sfc problem, check if system restore still works after you disabled the services you intend to disable (and keep us informed about what services disable system restore).
