[SOLVED] Cannot update to Win-7 SP1

I ran the sfc /scannow as you directed above. The verification stopped at 39% like it used to before. In any case I am sending you the link to the cbs.txt. I am also including a link to the screen print of the cmd page where it stopped at 39% with the message that it could not perform the requested operation.

Looking forward to your analysis of this data. Thanks again for spending so much time on this one problem. Appreciate it

Sorry for the delay, I had a class yesterday and I finished really late so I went home, took a bite and went to bed right away after. Here goes:

Alright, let's see if SFC goes through now.

System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't have the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

Here is the cbs.txt file. The scannow stopped again at 39% with the same error message as before

Did the "Windows Repair All in One" as defined in your post
Followed your instructions step by step
After the restart I tried to run SFC /scannow. It stopped at 39% as before with the message

"Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation"

Did the "Windows Repair All in One" a second time and ran the SFC /scannow again.
It stopped at 39% with the same error message as above

As I've proven that the HD, the RAM, the CPU all check out OK with their respective diagnostic tools and the windows repair tool has been run twice. Is it possible that there is a component in the mother board that is breaking down?
Is there a diagnostic tool for the mobo?

Thanks for your help

I don't think your motherboard is the issue here, and hardware troubleshooting isn't my strong point, I don't know if there are any tools to troubleshoot a failing motherboard. Usually, you notice a failing component on the motherboard and from there change the whole thing. Can you run SFC again and provide me the CBS.txt log?

I would be very interested to know as to what you are finding - or suspecting - when you read the cbx.txt and the SFCFix.txt that I have posted these last two or three times. What clues are you getting from these? In any case thanks for your effort. I know that it must be as frustrating for you as it is for me.

Well, I'm mostly looking for the obvious errors in the logs, and from there, I know what I must do in order to fix them. The Windows Update Troubleshooting world is really big, so most of the time I'll encounter errors I've never seen before and I'll have to use what I know and my experience to find out what I must do to solve these errors :)

Alright, please run SFC again and provide me the CBS.txt log after the scan.

Here is the cbs.txt after the SFC /scannow. The scan stopped at 39% as before.

I am confused with the instructions.
I received your instructions to run chkdsk /f and send you its log. It is copied below. Later I found that your earlier post asking me to run chkdsk disappeared and in its place you asked me to run the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool. I don't find the link to download this tool and follow up. Please re-post

I changed my set of instructions for another, and I thought you didn't have time to check the chkdsk /f one since I saw that you didn't login on Sysnative after I posted the instructions. You can download FRST from the link below.

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Download

You'll want to download the 64-bit version.

Good. Now please run SFC again and provide me the CBS.txt log after. Forgot that you had Windows 32-bit (since I don't encounter them often).

Congratulations!! You fixed the problem partially. I was able to get past the persistent 39% limit during SFC scan. It scanned all the way to 100% but declared that

"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them"

I ran the SFC /scannow three times to see if it would be able to fix some of the problems - but no luck there.
