Cbspersist Files Cannot install Win10

Thank you Corrine :) Alright Toots, let me know when you're ready to upgrade again.

Hi AURA, It is Toots again. Know you are busy so to update you on my problem, I still cannot update anything on MS Update except win10. Win10 still cannot install due to error 80070003. Sfc scan still shows corrupted file(s) that it cannot correct and are in the CBS.Log file.

Please help me get rid of those pesky corrupted files

Thanks so much

The SFC scan still shows corrupt files? Let's take a look at the logs then.

System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't contains the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

Alright these errors (utc.app.json and telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json) are normal, no need to worry about them. Let's check DISM just to be sure.

Aura, After running the DISM, which gave good results, have been unable to make Copy the C:\Windows\Logs\DISM folder and C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log file on your Desktop,
work. Have entered Copy the C:\Windows\Logs\DISM several times and each time it says it can find no record of file. The last 3 times have entered very fast. Had it copied and pasted it.

Any suggestions? Have done this before several times an first time just could not get the job done.

Restart your computer and try to copy them again. The DISM process might not have let go on the logs and is throwing that error instead.

Rebooted tried again, same results. Took 14 minutes to run.

Why can't you use the DISM and CBS logs files in C:Windows ?

Maybe I am entering he command wrong. Please write down the command without any *. This is sort of confusing: * Copy the *C:\Windows\Logs\DISM* folder and *C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log* file on your Desktop, then right-click on it, go to *Send to...* and select *Compressed .zip archive*;

Also. if I ever get the DISM Folder, should I use the CBS log file in C:\Widows?

Yes, I need both logs. And there's no *

I just bold the words because they are either filenames, file paths or exact commands.

So Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V doesn't work to copy/paste the files and folders? Also, there's no commands to enter. You simply go in the Windows Explorer, navigate to:

C:*\Windows\Logs

Select the DISM folder, then copy it (right-click and select Copy or Ctrl + C) and paste it on the Desktop. Same for:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS

Where you select the CBS.log file.

Your DISM scan returned clean logs. Now, let's see if we can upgrade to Windows 10.

Aura, am convinced there are corrupted file(s). Think the SFC Scan would run clear otherwise.

Had his same error in April 2015 and when Brian found the error, and fixed it, the SFC scan ran clear.

The corrupted files are in a Temporary location in WinSxS, so they cannot be replaced as their path will always change. Also, they are falsely reported as corrupt by SFC. Microsoft is aware of the issue and say that they'll fix it in an upcoming update, one day.

Also, I suggest you to copy the last two files on your Desktop, archive (.zip) them and then upload the archive on Dropbox.

Aura, Does this mean I will be left in limbo. If my windows update worked the CBS Persist files would grow everyday, they have already growth from about 16GB to 54GB. If the corrupted files cannot be corrected, why go through the motions of trying to correct my problem?

Don't know what you mean "the last two files on my Desktop? " Please clarify.

If you want, you can delete the CBS Persist Files. These are archived now, so they have no other purposes but to be used for future references if needed, and we don't.

Copy these last two files on your Desktop:

C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther\setupact.log
C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther\setuperr.log

Archive them in a .zip, then upload the archive (.zip) to Dropbox.

What you uploaded are shortcuts (.lnk) files. I cannot open them since the actual file isn't in the archive.

Aura, Sorry about that will look into it. But let me ask you this. Was reading about this problem on the net and saw several articles which indicated this mess was caused by KB3022345. Said MS has issued several updates to fix this KB, but apparently none has worked. But also read that you could uninstall this KB and it would solve your problem. It is supposed to be an optional update and it is for collecting data about you for MS.

Please tell me what you think and advise.

Aura,Cannot get those 2 files to budge. Any suggestions will be appeciated.

The KB3022345 is a Telemetry update. It has been reissued under another KB name (KB3068708) and that new one has also been issued many times. I don't think that installing/uninstalling it will solve the issue. If anything, they say that this update is a prerequisite for the upgrade to Windows 10.

Also, how can't you move these two files? You cannot copy them?

Aura, When you first asked for these 2 files I copied and pasted to Drop Box. They showed in Dropbox but were colored blue. Unable to zip them. Says denied. They show in desktop dropbox but do not show when I try to share them. Think I need some sort of special permission. Also, even through I copied the files, they disappeared from original path. Today I copied them back to C:\ location.

Also tried to paste them to desktop, permission denied.

Have Taking Ownership program, but it did no good.

That is strange that KB3022345 is optional to install but is necessary for win10.

If I ever get this corrected, will it eliminate all the unnecessary files it generated?
