[SOLVED] Checking for updates stuck - 2012 Standard

Okay, let's try tricking the system.

1. Check for updates as usual.
2. After a few minutes of inactivity while checking for updates, open services.msc and restart the Windows Update service, but do not close the Windows Update window while you do that.
3. You should see a different message.

Provided this test is valid (still had it checking for updates from previous steps). Bounced the service and it went right to:

If you get no results within 1 hour or more, please provide the following:

C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log
HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate

I think we tried this once before as I had it sitting on the desktop already.

It's been doing this since. (approaching an hour)

Needs a reboot. Probably can't do it till later. I'll let you know if it helps.

I jumped out of a plane yesterday!

Oh, about the updates... none yet. Haven't had a good opportunity to reboot it yet. I am on vacation this week, I'll probably ping you next Monday. Thank you for all your help!

Post reboot, it already had 10 updates ready to rock. Not wanting to tempt fate, I didn't do another check. Installing updates now. I'll let you know if we're good after they're done and a reboot.

It seems to be working. Either way, thank you very much for your help on this one!
