[SOLVED] Components Hive may be corrupt

OK, please close your registry editor. We can't use that hive anymore. Luckily I had you send me a copy so I have it. Please do the following. If you have any questions, please stop and ask.

Step#1 - Replace Manually
1. Download COMPONENTS2.ZIP and save to your desktop.
2. Right-click on it and select Extract all.... Make sure the "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click Extract.
3. Now we have the COMPONENTS file that we will be using to replace your current one.
4. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
5. Right-click on the current COMPONENTS file and select rename. Rename it to COMPONENTS.bad2.
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
6. Take the file from the Components2 folder on your desktop and paste it into C:\Windows\System32\config

Thanks. Now we need to see where we stand so please do the following again.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Ok. Just an fyi. It is now doing the scan. Would not before. Will post log when done. I really appreciate the help

Thank you! A bunch were repaired. We need to do one more run to see what's left to fix. Note: The command line right before bullet#4 below will prevent the in-use error that you received.

I am not able to do that. I need to reboot the server after the last one. So sorry but I will need to wait till tonight to reboot. Not able to reboot it right now :(

I would say so. I do have the subs under components in registry now along with others

Thank you. I need one more log before I can prepare a fix.

Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

I had to take another approach to get it to work. Will send log when done. Thanks again

Excellent. A whole bunch were fixed. I need you to run the tool one more time and then what will be left is what we still need to resolve.

Please attach the log when complete.

Sorry. But it says "there is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete" So I will need to do that tonight. I will send both logs tomorrow. Thanks
