Corrupt MSDTC.LOG and Media Samples

Remember my question about missing options? (scroll back up to post #44) Long story short, the missing options came back.

I just ran WU and no errors popped up. It gave me four optional updates. So it does look like WU is running as it should.:smile9:

Anything else I should run or are you confident I'm clean?
 
Well if SURT and SFC return clean logs, and Windows Update works as intended, it's all good on my side :)

Hi Aura,

I hate to bother you again and if you'd rather point me in another direction, feel free, but I still don't think my WU is running correctly.

There is still zero corruption per sfc /scannow so that's obviously a good thing. But there are error messages in my Event Viewer about a change of health and a whole slew of event ID 40 saying "an update has been detected." Despite updates being detected, I feel like I'm unable to connect to the WU server because WU is not showing any updates. In case it's relevant, I have WU set to "download updates but let me choose whether to install them."

I don't know if I have a key Windows service turned off or if there's a problem with the installer or what but are there other steps you can walk me through to see if WU is in fact running the way it should in case I'm just overly paranoid?

Kindly let me know your thoughts when you have a second. Thanks and again, sorry to bug you.
 
I took the liberty of posting my Repair WU log from Tweaking.com. I bolded files that are missing. Could those be problems and, if so, how would I obtain the files? Thanks again...

We'll see tomorrow (or on Wednesday) if your Windows Update are working or not, because it'll be Patch Tuesday. If past Wednesday, your Windows Update still hasn't detected, nor installed Windows Update, I'll look into it. If in the opposite, you were able to detect, download and install updates, then I consider that your Windows Update is working properly.

Yesterday I was offered 16 important updates and downloaded all but the two which are for Windows 10. I did have to manually find them, though.

It does seem like as of now my WU is working OK. But are the missing files I highlighted in post #66 a concern? Maybe the missing files are the reason why I can get updates but only if I manually find them instead of having them appear automatically?

And two days I ago I received and downloaded KB915597 for Windows Defender.
 
The Windows Update Troubleshooter says there are problems.

I decided to run it at start up and it shows errors of 1. Service reg missing or corrupt 2. WU error 80070490 or 80070003 (I've seen both errors at various times) 3. Problems installing recent updates. The troubleshooter "fixes" the problems but when I re-run the troubleshooter I still have errors.

If it truly fixed the errors shouldn't the troubleshooter come up clean the next time it's run? Can the WU troubleshooter be trusted? Could there be a problem with the cbsmanifest?

I didn't really understood that part. How did you know that two updates related to Windows 10 were missing?

I meant that in addition to the specific KB numbers I listed, two other updates were available but I chose not to install them because there were related to Windows 10 (I Googled their KB numbers) and I'm not ready to upgrade.
 
Ah alright. So basically, you were able to download and install your Windows Updates correctly. As far as I'm concerned, you don't have any Windows Update issues, so there's nothing to check on my side. As for the Windows Repair AIO log, the fact that it couldn't access certain files/folders could be a permission issue. As long as your Windows Update works, I would say that there's nothing to worry about.
