CRITICAL PROCESS DIED BSOD when signing out or shutting down

I attempted to download the driver at the Lenova site with unsatisfactory results.
When attempting to install, I rec'd pop up notice requesting I insert Disk 1. I have no OS disks.

Attempted to use the Lenova "recommended" Advantage program from Microsoft... It required creating a Microsoft Account to sign into my computer (?!?!? really?) which I did by creating another user with Administrative priveleges. Then it became even more intrusive, with a screen full of microsoft products, etc... all just to "register" this laptop on the account. I never did complete it. Something else happened that I could not circumvent, and I can't even recall what it was at this point.... sorry, I tried!

OK, so where does the cab file go? or what file within it do I select as the driver.... sorry, I try to update the driver and scroll to the cab file......
it downloaded to user/me/appdata/temp..... and I also copied it to C:\windows\System32\drivers\Genesis Card Reader.... but it doesn't install. Help! :(

Wait for a Windows Update Analyst, they can assist you properly. It may take a few days, but its worth it.

I'll check back tomorrow and the next./ time for a change from the puter screen. Hey, can I put Avast back on yet? No more BSOD so far.

Use Microsoft defender until the component store error code is troubleshooted in the Windows update forum.

Please do not use unknown third party websites for drivers.

Use the computer manufacturer, component manufacturer, or Microsoft catalog for drivers.

Well, that certainly DID make a difference. I recognize some of them; others I am googling to figure out the impact of leaving them disabled. I notice that avast clean still left a lot of stuff on there.

I'm glad to read that it made a difference.

Now it's a process of elimination.

Saturday will be one week for the second thread.

If you want the option to troubleshoot in this thread then create a bootable Windows 8.1 iso that matches the installed version.

OK, taking 3 days off or so. I tried installing Windows 10 about 3 years ago..... and I really liked it, but Lenova did not provide driver support for the Y510P, and I could not keep an internet connection running with 10. I'll look more into it to see if Lenova has since included the Y510P as supported for windows 10.

These are some options:

a) wait for support in the Windows update forum
b) troubleshoot the dism error code here and remain with Windows 8 > can open a new thread in the Windows update forum at a later time
c) upgrade to Windows 10 > if there are problems > restore the image > if there are no significant problems the continue with Windows 10
d) computer manufacturers may test drivers for Windows 7 or 8 but not provide tested drivers for Windows 10 > many of these computers work as long as they meet the Microsoft requirements

Just dropping back to update: Lenova still lists the Lenova Y510P laptop as "unsupported for windows 10". So I've just kind of left things right here. The last windows 8 update caused another BSOD, with a "driver verifier detected violation" error. So I just went back in and did a restore to the previous restore point, disabled automatic updates for awhile. I'll just choose which updates to install in the future.
