Hello, first time post for a new member. My story is below and I hope this is close to the requirement for posting in this forum.

Computer Information:

Dell XPS 8300
Intel Core i7 2600 @ 3.40GHz
16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
Dell Inc. 0Y2MRG (CPU 1)[motherboard]
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti (EVGA)[graphics]
1863GB Western Digital WDC WD2005FBYZ-01YCBB3 (SATA (SSD))[storage]

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

I had a hard disk failure and the WD 2TB disk above is new. I've been
using Retrospect Backup and had an 11-28-2023 backup of the C: drive.
I could not find a recent recovery disk so I used the original Dell
recovery disk to restore to the 2012 original configuration when new.
I then ran Retrospect Restore of C: (11-28-2023).

I'm not able to run Windows Update or any Troubleshooters. Otherwise
the system seems to work fine. Here are the two primary error messages
that seem to be significant:

<Scripted Diagnostics Native Host has stopped
working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is
available.>

The Debug choice does not work.

The other error is:

<sdiagnhost.exe - No debugger found.

No registered JIT debugger was specified.

Click on Retry to have the process wait while attaching a debugger
manually.
Click on Cancel to abort the JIT debug request.>

I'm not able to run any of the Windows Updates, even the Windows Anytime Upgrade
fails even though it accepts the license key and proceeds with the update to
the point where it fails.

I have Windows 7 Pro installation disk with license key and even tried installing
it and it's a Catch 22 with the Windows Anytime Upgrade. During the installation
(update not clean) I received the message that this computer needs to update using
the Windows Anytime Upgrade.

Hello and welcome,

Click the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, press enter afterwards.

Code:
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"

This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Zip this file and attach the zipped cbs.txt to your next post.
Note: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Gofile or WeTransfer and just provide the download link.

The cbs.txt file is small so it did not need to be zipped. It's attached.

The attached file is clean.
Lets have a closer look at your machine.

FRST Scan:
  1. Download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:
64-bit: Downloading Farbar Recovery Scan Tool
Note: Your antivirus program may report FRST incorrectly as an infection. If so, disable the real-time protection when downloading and running FRST.
  2. Right-click to run the tool as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  3. Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  4. Press the Scan button.
  5. Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  6. Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.

OK, FRST files are attached. Thank you!

A couple times during the scanning process FRST showed as (not responding) briefly but then returned to scanning and finished.

You have several adware/malware or remnants of it on your machine.
Lets remove that first.

Uninstall these programs:
- TornTV
- Yontoo 1.12.02
Restart the machine when asked to do so.

Warning: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Do not run this script on another machine.
  1. Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on FRST64.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  3. Press the Fix button.
  4. The tool will now process fixlist.txt.
  5. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  6. When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  7. Attach the logfile Fixlog.txt to your next reply.

The fixlog.txt is attached. I've never been able to remove those programs with the uninstallers (Windows and Glary Utils) and the post "fix" and restart screen grab is attached. Both TornTV and Yontoo are still on the list.

I put some more effort into removing TornTV and Yontoo using CCCleaner. I think they are gone now.

No need to have CCleaner installed. Please uninstall it.
Uninstall "Glary Utilities PRO 5.200" also and restart the machine.

Perform a new scan with FRST:
  1. Right-click to run the tool as administrator.
Note: Your antivirus program may report FRST incorrectly as an infection. If so, disable the real-time protection when downloading and running FRST.
  2. Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  3. Press the Scan button.
  4. Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  5. Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Step 1:
Warning: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Do not run this script on another machine.
  1. Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.

  6. When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  7. Attach the logfile Fixlog.txt to your next reply.

Step 2:
Download the free version of
571bf1f0722ca-malwarebytes_v221.PNG
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (website).
(A file called 'MBSetup.exe' will be downloaded)
Double-click this file to launch the installer of Malwarebytes, let it complete.
Do not change any setting during the installation.

Disable the real-time protection of your antivirus program during the scan with Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes will be a lot faster to complete.

Start "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware", click on "Dashboard" and next on the button "Scan Now".
If updates are available they will be downloaded first, then the scan will start.
The scan can take some time so please be patient.

When finished and if threats are found. let Malwarebytes remove them.
If you're being asked to restart the machine, please do so.
Note: Enable the real-time protection of your antivirus program if not already done.
Click Reports in Malwarebytes.
Put a checkmark at the latest scanreport, click View report, click Export en select Text File (*.txt).

Enter a filename and save it on your desktop.
Attach this text file to your next reply.

OK, ran FRST64, which completed almost instantly and Fixlog is attached. The MBSetup would not run. Screen grab of error message is attached.

I clicked the link in the MBSetup message which directed to the Windows legacy version. I installed the trial version and ran the scan.
The report is attached. Regarding enabling real-time virus protection I'm looking for a product since McAfee stopped support for Windows 7.
Is the Malwarebytes product a good choice?

Never seen that before. Great the installation was successful for both the Windows Update and Malwarebytes.

Is the Malwarebytes product a good choice?
Yes, but as with McAfee it might stop working in the future.
Read this information: https://support.malwarebytes.com/hc...arebytes-for-Windows-v4-support-for-Windows-7

Did you allow Malwarebytes to remove the found items ?

Malwarebytes quarantined the found items. I did not see a "remove" choice. For now I'll use Malwarebytes and see what the future holds.

The Windows update process still does not work (Scripted Diagnostics Native Host) and troubleshooting still does not work. As you can guess I'm trying to keep this machine running to continue using the Adobe CS suite and AutoCAD. The last of the purchased software. It's all software as a service now.

Thank you for the continued troubleshooting.

Did you uninstall McAfee completely ?

Download

MiniToolBox and save the file on your desktop.

Note: Save all your work and close all programs!
Rightclick "MiniToolBox" and select "Run as administrator".

If you see the startup message "Are you sure you want to continue?" select Yes.
Put a checkmark at Select All.
Click "Go".
When the scan is finished a log file with the name "MTB.txt" will appear on your desktop.
Attach this log file to your next reply.

McAfee is interesting because I can't uninstall it. I even tried the MCPR tool and Super Administrator and it did not work.

I ran MiniToolBox and the MTB file is attached.

I have a McAfee update. I started a tech support chat with McAfee and got to level 2 support and they provided the Windows 7 MCPR tool so it's now completely removed from my system. I ran MiniToolBox again and the MTB file is attached.

Great that McAfee could be removed successful. Never install more than 1 AV program.
