Zip the copied file and attach the zipped cbs.log to your next reply.

Is a restart necessary if none is required by the update?
No.

Run the following command again to see the current state.

SFC VerifyOnly
  • Run the command sfc /verifyonly in an elevated commandprompt and report the result.
  • If it fails, copy the file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\cbs.log to your desktop.
  • Zip the copied file and attach the zipped cbs.log to your next reply.

Ran sfc /verifyonly and it completed with the message "Windows Resource Protection found integrity violations" so the CBS file is attached.

Something new that is happening since I did the disk clean up and system files cleanup and saved the 5/15/2024 system image is a security warning message when I open Notepad. I've always used Notepad to take notes and it's never opened with this warning before. Warning dialog attached.

The fix didn't work.
Extract the attachment in message #648 manually. There should be 5 folders in that zip file.
Please provide the full path to the extracted folder.

I'm attaching a screen shot of the extracted files from the message #648 attachment. I'm not understanding what you mean. I don't see five hidden folders.

That is odd. Right-click the file SFCFix.zip and select "Extract all" instead of using "WinZip".

I don't have an "Extract all" option with a right-click. I can only open with WinZip and it's the same.

That is odd. "Extract all" is a standard option in Windows to extract ZIP files.
