How/why did you pick your avatar?

I chose an image from the movie Avatar, as my avatar, because I am lazy, unimaginative and........ well that pretty much covers it.

If choosing your avatar from the movie Avatar constitutes laziness and lack of imagination, there would be a vast amount of users with that avatar.

I think your choice shows quite a bit of imagination and some rather unique/literal humor.

I am simply a Doctor Who fan and the Cybermen are one of my favourite foes to pit their wits against the doctor.

The Daleks are another favourite and i used to talk like one without the aid of a glass of water.:grin1:

Though #3 was OK, there really has only been one Doctor in my book - Tom Baker. And yeah, I'm a fan and watch anyway, but I preferred #4 [preferably with K-9 and (OMG, who was the associate who was almost a savage and a great fighter and carried a knife?) though Sarah or the others were OK too with Tom there]. You didn't think the real arch-enemy was The Master?

I'm afraid I don't have a great story. Belonged to forums, but they didn't have avatars. 1st one I joined that did, I went looking for one. I found this one that just summed up a dog to me. I have used it ever since. I only change it at Xmas time for a short while. A Guy

I think mine is fitting for me, man with a spinning head. Started using probably 2002. I have been know to change for the holidays is all. The avatar and the name never change from forum to forum.

I haven't yet settled on a permanent avatar, and have been through several. I really want to find something which is unique and fits me perfectly, but I have yet to come across it. So instead I change whenever I get bored of whatever I am current using.

My current avatar is of Katniss Everdeen, The Girl on Fire, because I enjoyed immensely all three books in Suzanne Collins's Hunger Games trilogy, and Gary Ross's film adaption of the first book. I am very much looking forward to the second film. They are great books which can appeal to adults as well as children.

I might soon swap out this avatar for another character in the series, perhaps President Snow, Prim or maybe even Haymitch.

Tom Baker a great doctor but the greatest in my book was Jon Pertwee third re-incarnation with his frilly victorian style clothin and vintage car.

Ah the savage was Leela and was played by Loiuse Jameson who later appeared in Bergerac if that ever got over to the states.

Sarah played by Elizabeth Sladen she was great and died unfortunately last year of cancer.

The real arch enemy was the Daleks no question there although the master played by Anthony Ainley who was just one who portrayed him was up there.

Remember Davros half Dalek half mutant so called master was exterminated by the Dalek no 1 the black Dalek back then.

My current avatar is Gort, the robot from the 1951 version of The Day The Earth Stood Still and modified by Athene on SF. I change often to suit my mood. I have used the Grinch, Bender from Futurama, Scrooge, and a letter "B" in the past.
I have no good reason for choosing any of them. :bored2:

When I started with #3 was OK, I should have said he was great - most certainly would have been enough to make me a fan and far and away above all others except #4. I still have a scarf just as long as that made by my gf at the time - great in winter but rarely recognized for what it means. Back then, the Doctor had a limit of 12 re-incarnations. If still true, I believe the current one I can see in the USA is #12. Does that still apply or did they come up with some explanation why he now has more or got reset or whatever - otherwise what are they going to do when this one moves on?

AHH - Leela! Thanks - it was driving me crazy. "I serve the Doctor - HE is a Time Lord!"

Sorry about Sarah. Watched but didn't think much of her spin-off series.

Yes, I remember Davros - not really much in terms of a true adversary for the Doctor (by comparison). I chose the arch-enemy as The Master for the same reason I'd say the Red Skull was Cap's rather than all Nazies - but an argument can be made either way. But who were those superfast robots that were practically indestructible? I remember them from #4 but can't remember what they were called or what happened to them and if they've been seen since, I don't remember.

I still believe it is 12 reincarnations haven't heard anything or read anything about 13 but i guess they will cross that bridge when they come to it.

Superfast robots i really can't think Kosh that has me baffled it will be bugging me now i will try and find out and let you know.

Off topic...

I just saw the episode of Top Gear (UK) where The Cyber Man raced against Dr. Who, Darth Vader, Ming and a few other peeps.

Yes it is old.

Ah my avatar. I love my avatar. It fits me perfectly.

Generally my avatars are from images some of my favourite books. My TSF avatar is obviously a reference to Douglas Adams' Hitch-hiker's guide, my avatar here is an image from one of my all-time favourite series - The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett.

For those that don't know it, the image depicts the Discworld - a flat disc shaped world carried on the back of 4 giant elephants, which in turn are on the back of a giant turtle swimming through space.
