Hurricane Sandy

I drove in it ~10pm - not very fun on the rural roads here in the Pine Barrrens.

Trees down all over; many roads closed.

Back home safe.

Reports just in say that towns like Seaside Heights, NJ, will not have power or water restored for 8 (yes - eight) months minimum.

One of our daughters and her family (hubby and two boys) live in Ocean County/Toms River area, only about 10 miles from Seaside Heights. It is bad in Toms River too. But she was very fortunate to be way up on a nice sized hill, even though she's only two city blocks from the Toms River.

They got their power back quickly compared to others in their area. Some friends and famiy came to stay with them till their power came back.

Now they have snow and wind from a nor'easter and their power is out again since either early this morning or late last night ... talk about adding insult to injury.

Those poor folks up there! I feel so badly for those on the Barrier Islands ... and Ortley Beach is being called Ground Zero in that regard! Can you imagine!

I hope your daughter gets her power back quickly.

(I wish I knew where zlim got the figures she posted at SNF with the power outage numbers remaining Monday, Nov. 5th:

NJ Power outages: 779,571, down from 2.7 million
NY Power outages: 538,000, down from 2.2 million
WV Power outages: 53,000, down from 270,000.
CT Power outages: 35,000, down from a peak of 625,000
PA Power outages: 32,000, down from 1.2 million

For those taking pot shots at FEMA, it's important to note that no state has actually asked the federal government to classify this as a federal disaster, which would give FEMA the right to take over from the states and lead/guide the cleanup. Until that happens, blame your governors and state leaders for NOT doing this, don't blame FEMA. They're actually doing probably a bit more than they should be, given their role in cleanup for disasters that aren't given over to FEMA to lead.

Agree, Carl, but I think too many here remember how FEMA botched New Orleans and Homestead, FL, before that.

Maybe Gov. Christie has other plans in lieu of/ before FEMA - IDK.
