Internet drops on irregular basis

I agree with you.

Perhaps the user profile is somewhat corrupted.

Try using a different user account and then use the system normally and see if the Internet drops out.

Enable and use the Hidden Administrator user account - Enable/ Disable the Hidden Administrator User Account (Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista)

Be sure to re-hide the account after testing as you really don't want to use that account continuously.

That's interesting.
So I enable it with cmd and then type : net user administrator /active:yes
After that I log out and log back in with administrator ? Is a user pswd needed ? Or is it the same ?

There is no password on it at this time.

Code:
[font=lucida console]net user administrator /active:yes[/font]

Yes... the above command will do it.

After issuing that command, logoff your current user account and another account named Administrator will greet you at the logon screen. Double-click it and you should get in. It will need a few minutes to set up user files.

msinfo32 led me to a different driver update page using Aspire A517-51P. Is that your system's model number?

Per msinfo32 -
Code:
Systeem model Aspire A517-51P

That led me to this support page at Acer -

Product support

Unfortunately, the latest Atheros driver is from 2017 -

However, there have been 3 BIOS updates since the one you have installed came out on 2018/08/03.

Per msinfo32, your current BIOS info -
Code:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz, 1992 MHz, 4 core('s), 8 logische processor(s)

The current BIOS - version 2.02 -

Expand the BIOS area; download and install the v2.02 BIOS.

This is my model :Acer Aspire 5 Pro A517-51P-87GT
How do I update BIOS ?
I've downloaded the zip. Won't I have to take a restore point or something ?

Per the instructions, you have to issue the command from an Administrator CMD prompt.

Hit the WIN key; type cmd ; then RIGHT-click on CMD (Command Prompt) that appears in the list below the search box;

select "Run as Administrator" - it will say \windows\system32 and the title of the CMD screen will say "Administrator"

It should look like this (except your lettering color will likely be white) -

Now type in the command.

Release Note:
1.Add SCCM solution.
2.Update Intel ME Firmware 11.8.55.3510.

It's been 4 or 5 years since I've had to update a BIOS, but according to the instructions, download and extract the zip file; click on C5V01202.exe to update the BIOS.

Be sure to close all apps and to close all open Windows before proceeding.

UPDATE : I tested today just without any modifications, so on my own user account and the same BIOS, and I haven't had any drop today...
I'll keep an eye on that and report when things get worse again....strange isn't it ?

No restore points for BIOS.

Just make sure the system is plugged in to an A/C outlet securely.

Have updated BIOS to the latest. But it didn't last long before I had the first internet drop. Using my personal account.
Not yet tested on the administrator account.

Btw, I booted into the administrator account : are my files there or is this a ''brand new'' user space ?

Also, can't I run a log during the day to check what happens when my internet drops away ?

The hidden admin account user name is "Administrator" and yes, the system will treat it as a user and create user files for it under c:\user.

When the Internet drops, do you have to manually re-connect it or does it re-connect automatically?

Yes - there in an Event Viewer log in which you can see network (Internet, hopefully) connections; network disconnections and all in between.

Here is the Event Viewer Log that you're looking for - NetworkProfile --> Operational Log

See screenshots below as you go through the next few steps.

To get to it - click on the small arrow next to Windows Logs

- click on small arrow next to Applications and Service Logs
- go 8 entries down and click on small arrow next to Microsoft; same for Windows just below it
- then scroll, scroll and scroll until you come to NetworkProfile
- 2x-click on NetworkProfile and you'll then see Operational - click on it and you should see today's activity

Ok thxn for the details - i will follow them.

NOTE : i wanted to point out that I was looking at a youtube vid with BT headphones connected. I had an internet drop and as soon as the internet dropped, the BT headphone said, pairing broken off.
As soon as I tapped the WIFI icon on my keyboard to get internet to reconnect again, the pairing also reconnected.
The BT has nothing to do with the internet, right ? So why would that drop too? I guess this was something important to mention first.
Can this help us out?

Btw, my internet dropped about 3 times this day ( on my regular account) (havent tested out the admin one)
