[SOLVED] KB5036909 fails continuously with 0x800f081f on Windows Server 2022 Standard

I'm currently working on an older laptop, so the loaded Hyper-V image was a bit slow with just one virtual core and only 4GB of ram...

But here's the next fix.

Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Reboot the server and attempt to update again, if it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Please run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Please attempt to update again, with Process Monitor running. If it fails again we can check the trace file since the CBS did not reveal any useful information.

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Try updating the system just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as it fails. You can simply do this by clicking the capture icon (CTRL +E) on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up the LogFile.PML and upload it to WeTransfer - Send Large Files & Share Photos Online - Up to 2GB Free and provide the link.
6. Attach also the latest CBS logs for the time stamps.

Oooh - thought it was going to work that time... :(

The CBS zip is too large. Can I exclude some files from that folder?

The KB5040437 update installed, req'd a reboot, so I did the reboot.
Now when I check for updates there is a security update 2024-01 (KB5034439) req'd but it fails to install.

Ah, thanks.
I'm pretty sure I went thru the partition resize exercise earlier in the year. My recovery partition is 620MB.
When I just checked for updates now, WU says I'm up to date - no patches required.
But KB5034439 only shows as a failed install under the Update History list.

Oh well, have to see what happens next Patch Tuesday eh?

Thanks for you help to get this sorted.
What were your fixes actually changing on the server to allow WU to work?
