[SOLVED] .Net Framework Missing/Corrupt

LOL ~ ~ ~ all of this is very strange indeed! During the process of seeking help, I do not recall un-installing .Net Framework <if I did...it did not work>.

I have some information for you to review regarding this mystery. I have screen shots where you will see .NET Framework in the registry, however not the current version (perhaps that was due to directions in error). Also, you will see "success" of .NET Framework 4.5.2 installed with a security update! Now, it refuses to update with the error. Let me offer you the screen shots below from Google Drive:

1) Registry: Net Framework in Registry.zip - Google Driv

2) Update request 2-3-2016: Security Update 2-2-2016.zip - Google Driv

3) Success updates: NET Framework Succe

4) Failed updates: .NET Framework Faile

As you will see, this 4.5.2 has successfully installed before 12/23/2015; However, it does not show in the registry, it does not show in All Programs; and of recent it will not download/install with success.

I sure appreciate your assistance! <There does not seem to be an answer or M$ instructions as to how to fix this. Note: I did follow QM7's advise in BC to no avail.>

Cheers Aura!

So did the update KB2901983 installed successfully or not? Do you use Visual Studio by the way?

Yes, update KB2901983 did install successfully. It installed correctly on 11/14/2014
success4 (2).zip - Google Driv

No, I do not use
Visual Studio to my knowledge. In fact, I'd have to do a Google search to understand what I would use it for?

Visual Studio is an IDE created by Microsoft to develop apps, programs, websites, in various languages, mostly C#. If you're not a programmer, I don't know why you would have it installed and it might be getting in the way. If you don't need it, can you uninstall it? :)

Thank you for the definition of Visual Studio. As it does not pertain to my topic, it will not be addressed in this thread.

Regarding the .Net Framework, where do we stand? If there is no resolve that you can assist me with, go ahead and close the thread.

It sure is a perplexing situation!

You have spend a lot of time on this topic, and I am very grateful Aura for all you have done to attempt to solve my problem!

I can assist you with this, no worries :) What about trying to install it using the offline installer from the Microsoft Download Center? Simply download and execute it to launch the installation.

Personally, I would run the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool on your system, then restart your computer and try to install .NET Framework 4.5.2 from the link you posted as well.

Hello Aura!

I did run the Cleanup tool for 4.5.2 (no other versions). It appeared to me that 4.0, 4.5, 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 are missing?
Attempting to install 4.0 from Aaron Stebner's link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=17718
I received a failure. Let me provide you with the log that was generated (I do not understand any of it, apologies!)

As always, I sure appreciate your help! :smile9:

Thanks for the log Lisa :)
Code:
[02/07/16,19:23:30] Install state for .NET Framework 2.0: installed with service pack 2.
[02/07/16,19:23:30] Install state for .NET Framework 3.0: installed with service pack 2.
[02/07/16,19:23:30] Install state for .NET Framework 3.5: installed with service pack 1.
This makes sense, since you are using Windows 7, these .NET Framework versions are enabled in the "Turn On or Off Windows Features" panel. And what was the error message that you received when trying to install .NET Framework 4.0? Do you remember the error message and/or the error code?

Can you follow the instructions under "Method 1: Fix MSI software update registration corruption issue" and run the fix-it? Once done, try to install the .NET Framework again. If it fails, please upload the error log once more.

Press on the Win Key + R and copy/paste the following inside:
Code:
%temp%\Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Setup_4.0.30319\netfx_Core_x86.msi
Is it launching an installation?

Clicking Windows +R (the windows key, how to get the +and R at the same time?)

My attempt took me to the Run window. I copied your code and received the following: Please launch in Setup.exe

Stuck there.

I might be on to something. Follow the instructions below please.

Hi Aura! Sure hope you had a great birthday! Then...you're right back to work!

I did run your command.
I was asked "do you want to uninstall KB2918614" I said yes.
The green uninstalling bar went to town; no other information or messages.
The command prompt window returned and I closed it.

Can't wait for the next step! I'm feeling excited!

Alright now restart your computer and try to install the .NET Framework again. If it fails, please upload the new error log for me.

Edit: And I had a great birthday, thanks :)
