Go to Control Panel - Windows Update - Change settings.
Select Download updates but let me choose whether to install them.
Click OK.

Reboot the machine.
Check Windows Updates manually and report the result first. Do not install updates yet.

Did as you instructed still no different after reboot and manually updating windows

Same as previous Snip files

Click the Start-button and select Run.
Type msconfig and press Enter to open 'System Configuration'.
Open the tab Services.
At the bottom, put a checkmark at "Hide all Microsoft services".
Click Disable all.

Restart the machine.
Check Windows Update again and report the result.

Hi here are the results after doing the above mentioned

Open an elevated command prompt window.
Copy and paste msiexec -? into the command prompt window and press enter.
A window should popup with some information.
Take a screenshot of that and paste it into your next reply.

Hi Peter I have attached the request result.

Gareth

That looks good.

Warning: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Do not run this script on another machine.
  1. Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on FRST64.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  3. Press the Fix button.
  4. The tool will now process fixlist.txt.
  5. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  6. When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  7. Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Do i need to run the file once I unzip it?
No, I just wanted to know what happens.
Click the proceed to... link in your screenshot and follow the directions given.

No problem if you do not post while you are traveling. We'll just wait.

Hi Peter I cannot duplicate what happened the first time as it just opens my download manager to download the file.

Regards

Gareth

Why do you need a download manager ?
Uninstall Free Download Manager, reboot and try Windows Update again.
