[SOLVED] Scannow Tests Fail; online long running scripts prevent going further on websites

Is it possible to have the download URL for it? Right-click on the COMPONENTS file in Dropbox.com, and select Share. Then copy/paste the URL it gives you :)

It seems like you didn't copy the COMPONENTS file in that archive, but only a shortcut to it. Here's the instructions once more :)

Retrieving the COMPONENTS Hive
Follow the instructions below to retrieve your COMPONENTS Hive and send me it.
  • Open your Windows Explorer, and navigate to the C:\Windows\System32\Config folder;
  • In this folder, find the COMPONENTS file (there's no extension), and copy it to your Desktop;
    Note: If you receive an error message saying that the COMPONENTS file is in use, restart your computer and try again. If the error message persist, let me know.
  • Right-click on it, and select Send to... and choose Compressed (zipped) folder;
  • Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
If it doesn't work (even after a restart), let me know and I'll write a script that you can run to copy it on your Desktop.

Yet again it's a shortcut to the COMPONENTS files again :) You need to actually copy and paste the file on the Desktop, not right-click on it, select "Send to" then "Desktop (shortcut)".

I'm sorry (again) Aura.
Now, I'm having the trouble with the file in Drop box.
It really can't be this hard but I have made it difficult!

Here's how I do it. I open the sys 32 config folder to spot the components and when I do I slide it right out onto the desktop; if I copy it by right cliking, I get into that shortcut trouble.
Ok, then I go to the right click of the desktop's Components and send w/the option also from right arrow's opening to send in compressed zip and then hit the dropbox right off the thread here that you have provided and it's not even doing what it was before. I slip it right into the awaiting insert slot at top and I wait and I refresh page, I hit files and shows nothing! Geez, why does this happen! This is the most difficult task ever for getting to the almost the finish line of this damn clean up, ya know it.

I'll give you an easy trick :) For now, please delete the current "COMPONENTS" file you have on your Dropbox. Now, go in the C:\Windows\system32\config folder, right-click on the COMPONENTS file and select Copy. Once done, right-click anywhere on your Desktop and select Paste. This should do it :)

Aura,
A friend recommended the File Send to "use" you don't even download it. But it needs to be a file emailed to the recipient and so it'd require an email address, of course. If that's an idea?

Aura,
For the first time in trying this, the components wouldn't move from the Config folder when I tried again, after I cleared the desktop of the other shortcuts, etc...and it gave the alert of it not being able to do the task because it's open in system. I'll try rebooting as you advised earlier on and see if it behaves normal.

Also, I attempted to run a SFC scannow and the weirdest message indicated that this couldn't be done because of the windows safety shield or some language like that(?).

Is this actually your COMPONENTS Hive? If it is, then we have a problem sadly. It's only 256KB of size. A normal COMPONENTS Hive is over 30-35MB. Follow the instructions below please.

Sadly your earliest copy of the COMPONENTS Hive is on 9/29/2015, and you started the thread before that, which means that it's still most likely a 256KB hive. There's no way to solve your issue manually, the only thing you can do at this point is take your Windows 7 installation media and do a Repair Install. This will keep all your programs and files, but might reset some system settings, as well as forcing you to reinstall all your Windows Updates.

Sorry, but there's no other way in your situation :/

Aw, bummer. Because my friend installed the win. 7 64 bit and I have only the 32 bit win. 7. And I've contacted him and he thought he included my DVD but as I explained, that's why I've been reluctant and anyway, I appreciate your expertise Aura, and the time and the patience (and oh man or I mean, you had to have in the way I had tripped through the files transfer, and all that.
Your bio shows that you also do work on Bleeping Computer?
Well, listen you take care, and maybe we can be online again sometime. I would like to go ahead and get either reinstallation or the repair DVD as soon as I can.

Take care!
