[SOLVED] server 2008 R2 SP1 win update give error 80070002

patbau,
I'd like to look at your server's registry to see if these updates are partially installed.

Follow these instructions to have SFCFix upload the components hive:

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. [sfcfixdownload]Download SFCFix[/sfcfixdownload] (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the attached file, SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Next, I would like the SOFTWARE hive:

Export SOFTWARE Hive

Please download RegBak (by AceLogix Software) from the link below and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on regbak.zip then select Extract all... and extract the files to your Desktop
    For 32-bit (x86) editions of Windows, double-click on regbak.exe
    For 64-bit (x64) editions of Windows, double-click on regbak64.exe

If you are unsure whether you have x86 or x64 Windows, see here
  • Without changing any options, click Next. RegBak will now backup all of your registry hives.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\RegBak\{Date}\ and copy the SOFTWARE file (it has no extension) to your Desktop
  • Right click on the SOFTWARE file on your Desktop and choose Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  • Upload this zip file for me to analyse:
    Microsoft Onedrive
    Dropbox
SendSpace (or any other file-sharing site of your preference)

When you have uploaded the zip, send me a private message here: Send zcomputerwiz a PM with a link to the uploaded file.

DO NOT POST THE LINK IN THIS PUBLIC FORUM! The software hive contains sensitive information such as software license keys!

Ok, for the time being turn off Windows Update automatic updating: Turn automatic updating on or off - Windows Help
For this process I'll tell you which updates to install and when, don't attempt to install any on your own.

First I would like you to run this script to remove any traces of KB3088195:

Ok, let's try uninstalling some updates.

From an administrative command prompt, run the following commands:

wusa /uninstall /kb:2872339

wusa /uninstall /kb:2922229

wusa /uninstall /kb:2871997

When complete, right click inside the command prompt window and choose 'select all' and then press enter.
This copies the contents of the command window into the clipboard.
Paste this information into your reply.

Hi,

The first 2 updates were uninstalled and asked me to restart.
I have'nt done it.
The third one failed with error 0x80070490 Element not found.
Here is the contents of the command window.

Code:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Windows\system32>wusa /uninstall /kb:2872339

C:\Windows\system32>wusa /uninstall /kb:2922229

C:\Windows\system32>wusa /uninstall /kb:2871997

C:\Windows\system32>

I restarted the computer and uninstalled again kb:2871997 who succeeded that time and asked me to restart what i have done.

Waiting for next step before doing anything.

Please run Windows Update and click 'Check for Updates'. Attempt to install any that are offered.
If any of the updates fail, zip and attach CBS.log

Very good! Remember to turn automatic updates back on :)

I'll mark the thread solved. If you encounter any problems, please post back and I'll continue to assist you.
