[SOLVED] sfc /scannow problem!

Hi softwaremaniac,

1) firstly I re-downloaded the SFCFix.zip from the link in your earlier post, then I extracted the contents of the SFCFix.zip to my Desktop as instructed.

2) I then downloaded the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool & the Fixlist.txt file from the links in your previous post to my Desktop also, both in the same location as instructed.

3) Then I followed the instructions you posted here:

Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Only when I click "Fix", it tells me promptly (Fix completed, "Fixlog.txt" is saved in the same directory FRST is located!) which I presume is my Desktop, then it automatically opens up Notepad (which I presume would be the fixlog.txt!) but shows me the error (Cannot find the C:\Users\Jim\Desktop\Fixlog.txt file. Do you want to create a new fle?). Well obviously I don't, so I select no & shut the empty Notepad, and as per error statement "NO" Fixlog.txt is on my Desktop to supply you with!? It happens in the same sequence (1-4) of my posted screenshots.

Regards.

Hi softwaremaniac,
I just thaught I'd throw it out there (sorry to double post!), that yesterday I thaught I'd revisit the forum that I started this sfc /scannow query Here just being curious, and the person I was dealing with previously on that forum had suggested I uninstall "Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 C++ Redistributable" to (I presume?) resolve this issue!?...:cautious:

Scratch that last post,
After looking at the dates of other sotware in my programs and features, I discovered 3 programs relating to the same date (23-05-2017, I baught my machine after this!?) as the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable, they were: (Bonjour Service/HP Audio Switch/Hp Support Assistant). I then created a Restore Point, unistalled the two versions of Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributables that were visible: ( Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable x64 (&) Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable), then restarted my system. I then ran sfc /scannow admin again, only to have it stop (as always!) at 59% with the usual error: (Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation). 😕🙄🤬
Back to square one!

Is it an option for you to do an In-Place upgrade? It would fix your issue and all of your data would be left exactly as it is right now.
If I do an in-place upgrade, which option ( Upgrade this PC now or Create installation media for another PC ) would be best for my circumstances❓
Thanks.

It makes no difference.

You can select either. If you select upgrade this PC now, the tool will automatically download and try to upgrade the machine, which should work. However, in case it fails, you might be better with having the iso to upgrade from in order to save time in case of (eventual) troubleshooting.

Well now, so after much hesitation I finally went ahead with an in-place upgrade! I used the Media Creation Tool to create an ISO, & used that method for perhaps less updates!? Whoever said the process is relatively quick & easy (that's all I've been reading in various guides!) is LYING!, It took nearly 3hrs to complete, & froze at 42% then 84%, after & including re-starts!:mad: I panicked a lot BUT, cut a long story short, check this out:==>>

At long last, I can finally create a decent backup, & more importantly, I can now Clone my HDD to my newly aquired M.2 SSD, & not have to worry about sfc /scannow!! :)(y)🆒.... I hung out doing the in-place upgrade, hoping I'd be able to fix it an easier way, but...

Thanks for all your help with this problem softwaremaniac, I guess you can mark this thread as Solved now! (y)
I'm truly grateful & shall highly recommend this forum to others.
