Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service. Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.

Restart Windows to complete this operation. <---You may not get this line.
Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)? <---You may not get this line.

Go ahead and do so if prompted. Let me know what errors if any come up. If you do get errors, please zip/attach your CBS.log

That update finished. I have had that update or one like it failing for about a year, each time I would restart my computer it would try to install an update and then roll back the update and restart. I developed a habit of leaving my computer on just so I did not have to go through that every single time. finally I got sick of the issue and decided to fix it as I work on windows machines every day. I am very thankful for your service. during the process with the other Gent I also noticed my programs and features menu was empty and corrupt, over the course of this repair with you that has returned to good health. Please accept my Gratitude.

do you recommend doing the optional updates as well ?

Thanks for the kind words. We were happy to help!

No, I would not do optional updates as they can often cause issues. I would recommend you upgrade to Windows 10 as Windows 7 is going to end its support in 4 months.

Thank you for that, Is windows 10 compatible with software written for windows 7 in general ?
