[SOLVED] SFCFix 1 corruption, struggling to upgrade to Windows 10 error code 0x80072F8F - 0x20000

Was uninstalled but don't believe I ran that uninstaller until now. Also I switched to Microsoft Security Essentials. Didn't realize Windows Defender is worse for windows 7 and MSE updates without that error

I'm creating a script to remove the Norton/Symantec orphans found on your machine, and as there are quite a lot of them, this may take me some time.

Whilst I'm doing that, I'd like you to follow the instructions below for removing the "extra" Registry entries listed in the nisudf.txt log you supplied earlier.

  • Start FRST.
  • Hit your Windows Key + R to open a Run window
  • Type Notepad then click OK
  • This will open an empty Notepad document
  • Copy/Paste the following into it (Don't include Code: ) .....
Code:
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\DTLS 1.0]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\DTLS 1.2]
DeleteValue:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\SSL 2.0\Client|Enabled
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\SSL 2.0\Server]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\SSL 3.0]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\TLS 1.0]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\TLS 1.1]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\TLS 1.2]
DeleteValue:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\.NETFramework\v4.0.30319|SystemDefaultTlsVersions
DeleteValue:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\.NETFramework\v2.0.50727|SystemDefaultTlsVersions
  • Save it as fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST (must be in this location)
  • NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user. Running it on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
  • Now press the Fix button once and wait.
  • FRST will process fixlist.txt
  • When finished, it will produce a log fixlog.txt in the same folder/directory as FRST64.exe
  • Please post me the log

Nice think that was it. No longer getting that error. Thanks a lot. Hilarious the fix to play Lost Ark on windows 7 prevents you from getting windows 10. I wish I remembered that sooner

Glad to hear you're no longer getting the error.

Probably best we remove all those Norton/Symantec orphans as well. Over the years I've seen them create all sorts of wierd problems.

Just need to have my script checked first, and then I'll post it.

So, to remove the Norton/Symantec remnants ....

  • Please ... Download the file Fixlist.txt attached to this post to the same location as FRST. (must be in this location)
  • Double click Frst64.exe to launch it.
  • FRST will start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press the Fix button.
    • FRST will process the fixlist and when finished it will produce a log named Fixlog.txt
    • Please post it in your next reply.

Looks good. There a few Legacy Keys that have not been removed, but to be honest I don't believe they're likely to cause you any problems. We can remove them using a different method if they do, or if it bothers you leaving them in place.

How is your computer behaving now, and have you attempted to upgrade yet ?

If so how did it go ?

Doesn't bother me thanks. Just upgraded and it went well. Thanks a lot of all the help

In that case, I think we can mark this topic as solved.

To uninstall FRST and remove all its files, please do the following ...

  • Rename FRST64.exe to Uninstall.exe
  • Double click on Uninstall.exe to launch it.
    • Your computer will reboot, and on reboot will remove FRST and all its files.
