Small Business Server 2011 Windows Update Error 80073701

This one is a bit tricky, do you have another (2012R2/SBS2011) server at your disposal by any chance we could use to search for a particular key?

I have other ways of sourcing it, I just want to know what our options are.

Yes I can connect to another SBS2011 or 2012R2 Instance (Both Instances on a HyperV Host) via TeamViewer

Excellent!

If so, I am going to need the COMPONENTS hive from that Server:

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service and just provide the link here.

I think you are looking for the amd64_wvmic.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.18080_none_f29bea752067564e key?
I just looked it up on the other 2011SBS server but there is the key also missing.

I have the .inf file on the server.
Could you do something with this?

Otherwise I could install a new set of HyperV with the right patch level to get this.
But this would take 1-2 days.

Or can I just disable this part of the HyperV integration?

I hope I understand it right, what parts are missing and what Windows Update is complaining?!

Yes, that's correct! There are Hyper-V keys missing (That's why I was seeing Hyper V errors). We are now replacing them, but I don't have the one you mention. I'll check my other VMs and machines I have access to and get back to you.

After we fix the keys, we'll likely have to fix the versions, so the machine knows what to look for. After the versions present are fixed, we move on to the actual files (payloads)...

Okay, wow that looks like a long way for getting the updates installed.
Thank you in advance for this help!

Please tell me if I can assist you, for example, setting up a new machine to get the HyperV keys etc..

The perks of fixing a Server machine! :grin1: Thanks I have access to several VMs and I can set up a custom one myself if needed.

Talk to you later, it's late in Croatia and time to sleep :)

I have an idea, please do the following:

Step#1 - Export registry as hive

  • Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit
  • When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing
  • Once selected, click File > Export....
  • Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*).
  • Name this file ComponentBasedServicing (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the saved file and choose Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  • Attach the .ZIP file to your next post.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload to SendSpace and just provide the link here.
