Tesla Owner Blows Car Up instead of Paying €22,000 for a New Battery Pack

Yeah, cos that wouldn't get on your nerves at all after 10 minutes.

regulation is not applied retrospectively to older EVs.

That's true here, too. Lots of things end up "grandfathered in" when it comes to evolving regulatory oversight.

I actually hope that they build intelligence into EVs as far as where and when they make sound. There's very little reason for it on interstate highways, for instance. Even if it were basically set up based on speed, that would be a good start, as lower speeds are generally an indicator of being in a more densely populated area. But I presume that some degree of AI will be involved, not something so simple as "we're going below {insert speed here} so turn on the sound."

I love that Jetsons sound, but only as an amusement, mind you!

That would get very old, very fast, even in a single car. Can you imagine a traffic jam (or even just a couple of blocks of not-jammed urban traffic) where they all made this sound?!

It seems that versions of white noise at a low level (which is not all that much different than what an ICE makes) is coming into the design picture with relative frequency.

At speed, it sounds like a dentist's drill. :D

In this Tesla story, I wonder how he got permission to blow up the car up. Or rather, not so much the car, but the battery. Li-ion batteries are not exactly environmental friendly.

They more than likely, already removed at the dealer's workshop. They were going to sell him new batteries if he wanted to keep the car.
