Unable to install KB4537821 on Windows Server 2012 R2

Export registry as hive

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide

  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
  6. Name this file SideBySide (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  7. Right click on the SideBySide file and choose Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  8. Attach the zip with your reply.

I'd like to take a look at the Software hive itself.

Export SOFTWARE Hive

Please download RegBak (by AceLogix Software) from the link below and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on regbak.zip then select Extract all... and extract the files to your Desktop
    For 32-bit (x86) editions of Windows, double-click on regbak.exe
    For 64-bit (x64) editions of Windows, double-click on regbak64.exe

If you are unsure whether you have x86 or x64 Windows, see here
  • Without changing any options, click Next. RegBak will now backup all of your registry hives.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\RegBak\{Date}\ and copy the SOFTWARE file (it has no extension) to your Desktop
  • Use a utility of your choice to compress ( zip ) and password protect the file, such as WinRAR, 7-ZIP, etc.
  • Upload this zip file for me to analyse:
    Microsoft Onedrive
    Dropbox
SendSpace (or any other file-sharing site of your preference)

When you have uploaded the zip, send me a private message here: Send zcomputerwiz a PM with a link to the uploaded file.

DO NOT POST THE LINK IN THIS PUBLIC FORUM! The software hive contains sensitive information such as software license keys!

Finally found it. I had missed a deployment key in one of the earlier fixes, thanks for uploading the hives so I could double check everything.

No worries.
Look like KB2553447, KB2584066, KB2460011, KB2553181, KB2553310, KB1553347, KB4541509, and KB890830.

The logs are no longer indicating a particular component.
Let's try this:
Capture Process Monitor Trace
  1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
  2. Attempt to install the failing update just like you have in the past.
  3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as the install fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar.
  4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
  5. Zip up and attach the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log.

Link to the logfile I'll send in a PM as it is a bit large and I'm not sure what all is in it content-wise.
