Unable to run .Net updates on Server 2008 R2

Little bit of new information.

I was able to install .Net 4.6.2 by extracting the "ALLOS" exe instead of running it.
Once extracted I was able to run the 4.6.2 FULL x64 executable directly which succeeded.

So theoretically I may be able to install .Net 4.8 if the same steps work.

This won't fix my update problem which is still important as we still want to be able to run patches and the windows update packages don't extract the way the full install does.

I'm hoping this info helps.

Please continue to provide troubleshooting steps as you see fit.

FYI. I attempted the already pending .Net update which is valid for 4.6.2 and it still failed with error 641.

If I update to 4.8 there will no longer be updates pending to test for successful .net patching. (unless there are some already waiting that I'm unaware of and just not presented because I don't have 4.8 installed yet)

Should I still try the 4.8 install?

Ok. I'll run the install.

I'm just worried about the future when a patch is deployed for 4.8 that we'll still be in the same situation.

But I agree, lets move forward is at least 4.8 runs.

4.8 is now installed.

Check for updates had a pending .net rollup that effected 4.8

Failed, error 641

KBs Offered:

Main Line: KB4514602, KB915597

Optional: KB4503548 (which is weird because it's appears to be the 4.8 install)

This is after a fresh check for updates.

This appeared to run successfully.

Same process.

Only difference is that this did not prompt for a reboot as the others had and without the skin of the Setup utility, there is no "Finish" page letting me know it's done.

But it does appear done with no errors presented or in event viewer.

Please do this:

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download the attached fixlist.txt and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.
