[SOLVED] unable to update windows in over a year, please help me :(

Run registry editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\PendingFileRenameOperations
Is there anything under that key?

If so, click File -> export and save it as pendingrenames.reg on your Desktop, then include it with your reply.

Is there a HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\RebootPending\ key again?

Delete that key, reboot then try SFC again.

If that doesn't work again:
Note:: Create a new system restore point before continuing.

Browse to the pending.xml file in winsxs, right click on it and then choose properties.
Click the security tab, then click the advanced button.
Click the change permissions button, then uncheck 'include inheritable permissions'.
Choose remove.
Click the add button, type everyone then click ok.
Check allow next to 'full control'.
Click ok on each of the windows.
Copy pending.xml to your Desktop, then delete the copy in winsxs.
Reboot your computer, then try to run SFC again.

i deleted the key, rebooted, then ran SFC again, came back with same message, system repair pending etc,
i created a restore point, followed your instructions but couldnt untick `include inheritable permissions`

Let's try this:

FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

View attachment fixlist.txt

seems the pending.xml has been moved successfully after reboot...fixlog.txt is attached bud

Check for updates again, then try to install one of them. Note the KB# you will need it later.

If the update fails, zip up and attach C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log and C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Include the KB# and error code with your reply.

If the update succeeds, check for updates again and try another one (reboot if requested).

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3065822)

Installation date: ?25/?07/?2015 19:25

Installation status: Failed

Error details: Code 80070005

Update type: Important

am uploading logs to onedrive and will PM them to you buddy shortly

You can share them here if you'd like, you don't have to PM these logs :)

I'd also like to get a list of the installed updates on the system.
Click the Start button and type cmd in the search box.
Right click on command prompt and choose run as administrator
When the command window is open, copy and paste the following command, then press enter

wmic qfe list > %userprofile%\desktop\qfelist.txt

Wait until the command completes, then attach the qfelist.txt file from the Desktop with your reply.
The command will be complete when the blinking cursor in the window moves down to the next line and C:\windows\system32> is displayed.

they are to large to attach bud so upped them to onedrive then pm`ed you,any smaller ones and i will attach :)
