  1. Click on the Start

button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  3. In the left hand panel of regedit, you will see a list of registry keys. Navigate to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\PackagesPending
  4. Right-click on it and select Permissions...
  5. Click the Advanced button.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Type Everyone in the text box.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Single click on Everyone and then tick the "Full Control" box under Allow.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Check the box replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object.
  12. Click OK.

ok successfully done that, there was another `everyone` as well, must have been from one of our previous help exchanges earlier in the thread, anyway i did all that :)

Please run the System Update Readiness Tool again and upload C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

OK, pick an update (not an IE update) and try installing it. Note the KB# you will need it later.

If the update fails, zip up and attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Include the KB# and error code with your reply.

If the update succeeds, check for updates again and try another one (reboot if requested).

i tried to install this one,it said installation successfull and to reboot, after i rebooted and checked update history it said failed [error code 80242016]

Thank Brian, he's been doing a majority of the work behind the scenes for this one :)

Go ahead and install all the non Internet Explorer updates, remember to click 'check for updates' after any reboot to refresh the list.

Let me know when you get to updates that fail, include the KB# and error code and attach CBS.log

ok i will do,im very grateful for all brians work also,im sure he will read this lol,i havent checked them all but i think the only internet explorer update is the IE 11,I will be in touch, thanking you and brian kindly again!

[update] hello guys, well iv successfully (i think) installed all 75 updates, even the IE11 update, rebooted several times as did them in batches of 10 - 15, when i click on IE icon on desktop it opens a blank page then closes, not so much of a problem as i use chrome as my main browser,i do need IE tho for my sky go account as sky stopped users from using sky go on chrome for some reason.

Great :)

Run SFC and attach cbs.log, if there aren't any apparent corrupt files we'll do some IE specific fixing.

iv applied that fix, rebooted, still when i click on IE icon it opens up a blank page then closes after 10 seconds
