Vista Updates will not work after HD clone

Those results look fine - obviously the CMD works properly, and the BAT file worked the first time around.

You say that you are getting frequent error messages - please give exact details.

Please also upload the following files (zip them first, please - they may be too big for the forum otherwise)

C:\Windows\System32\winevt\logs\System.evtx
C:\Windows\System32\winevt\logs\Application.evtx

No I am not getting error messages frequently (other than service is not running when trying to do updates). I am getting a message saying that an unidentified program with an unknown publisher wants to access my computer when I run things such as cmd in admin mode, etc. Is this normal? Getting the logs now.

An unknown publisher error when opening CMD as Admin??
That is unusual - are you sure it's not just the normal LUA warning? - which is to be expected when opening any program as Admin.

The Application.evtx file in the upload appears to be corrupt? - neither Windows nor WinRAR can unzip it, although the System.evtx log is OK.

Can you open the file on your own machine? (double-click on it) - if yes, then try uploading it again, if not, then delete the original, reboot twice, and the try uploading the new one.

Yea it says unknown publisher. I will attach a word document with an example of the message I am seeing. Mine of course is a different program. I pulled this example off of google because I couldn't figure out how to screen shot that dialog box.

The files all open correctly on my machine and go straight into windows even viewer. I will upload again.

Again, thanks for your help. Andrew

EPSETUP comes up when you attempt to open a Command Prompt?

This is probably an installer for Epson printer software!
Check whatever shortcut you are using. - it should point to C:\Windows\System32\CMD.exe (or %windir%\System32\CMD.exe)

The Application log is still failing to open for me?

OK - I'll have to look at it the hard way....

Please open Event Viewer and Export the Application log as a CSV file - Click on Action... Save all events as.. and change the file type to CSV
Compress and Upload the resulting file, and I'll see if I can make sense out of it!

No ESPSETUP is not the program. It correctly goes to CMD but I just used that picture from google to show you the message I am seeing. I will get you the CSV now.

I had the same problem after a HD cloning (Samsung 1 TB to WD 1 TB).
I tried Clonezilla and Acronis True Image WD, but after the cloning no more windows (vista 64) update was possible.

After some days I found these commands, all files were renamed and (oh happy day) Windows update works again!

Thanks a lot and
Greetings from Bavaria
Guenther
