Hi

Please do the following.

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download the attached fixlist.txt and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Then try windows update again and attach CBS log when if fails.

I expect the job to fail but want to see if the fixes are no longer being reported.

Update took a very long time, over an hour I think, and still failed with 0x8007000d. Logs attached. Thanks

Hi

Please do the following

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Try updating the system using the automatic system update.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as the it fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and provide the link to the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace.

Hi Bruce,
I think we should stop at this point, we both spent too much time trying to salvage it, reinstall is probably an easier option.
Thanks for all of your help, I'm very impressed by the effort!

Hi

It's your call - I'm happy to continue if you want to but fully understand if you want to call it a day. Sorry couldn't get things solved for you.

Thanks for sticking with the topic.

OK, we can try some more if that's fine with you. I have to figure out how though, each KB4601319 installation attempt takes a couple hours and procmon is just unusable. Judging by what I see in CBS.log and procmon, update fails while showing about 74% and then just stays there for an extra hour without any activity from TiWorker.exe
I have to either try to find some smaller update to play with, or save procmon log at that point and see if it is of any use.

Hi

No problem at all to continue.

Please do the following.

OK, it still failed but demanded a restart. Logs and PML file are here. I was running procmon till I noticed in CBS.log that it failed and started downloading things at around 18:51.
Logs from the second attempt are attached to the post. No PML in this case as process monitor crashed after logging ~100M events
Thanks

Apologies for delay.

Hi

Can you confirm if you have any language packs installed and which ones?

I don't have any language packs, this is a US English installation. Have a second keyboard layout and that's it.
