btw

on one of my machines,
disabling net framework 3.51 was successful like you mentioned.
nobody knows why.

on the three other machines i always get this error message.

so i created these links from one machine, where the error comes.

Hello Softwaremaniac,

i have a good news for you.
i managed on all 4 machines to disable net framework 3.51 without error.
in fact it was 2 autoload entries, which i found with "autostart",
which pointed to net framework "netgen" files even not existing.

i removed these two entries manually and afterwards disabling net framework 3.51 with your cmd command succeeded.

thanks again for your help.

the question keeps,
if windows update keeps prompting for net framework updates every month,
or if this has been stopped now.

will investigate and let you know.

have a fine weekend.

cheers mike

Great. Thanks for letting me know.
Since the Framework has now been disabled and removed. You shouldn't receive any updates regarding it.

If you do happen to receive one, you can always hide it if you don't need it.

Hi,

i've tested updates now,
and all net framework updates still appear:

this is quite strange and to hide them is not just a super solution.

is there no way to stop this with a tweak or so ?

Hi,

i have made a frst64 scan for .net framework.

i attach the result.

you can see a lot of updates etc entries pointing to the recent installed versions like 4.7.
(infact any upper version above 3.51 build in by system by default.)

these entries should not be there cause i uninstalled update.

anyway, i'm pretty sure, if these entries would be removed,
windows update would not prompt anymore for net framework updates.

could you please have a look and create a script for frst64 to remove these entries?
this would be great.

thank you

cheers mike

You have a few options:

1. Hide the updates (My preferred way)
2. Block the updates

You can also uncheck the option to receive recommended updates.

As for the fix:

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Hi Softwaremaniac,

thanks for your help.

Believe it or not:
After proceeding your fixlist i could install all updates without error messages.

well i thought, this fixlist would work, that no more net framework updates would appear in windows update,
cause net framework is DISABLED in my windows features setup.

in fact, they still appeared, which is strange though, isn't it.
why should i update a not used feature.

however, i just tried to proceed the offered updates and they succeded.

so finally one could say, that the updates were blocked by recent entries in registry pointing to not existing updates.

anyway, it's working now, let's wait for next monthly windows update, if new problems occur, hopefully not.

Again, thanks lot for your help and patience.

best regards

mike
