[SOLVED] [W7SP1 x64] Won't Update, Error 80073701

Re: Windows 7 Won't Update - Error Code 80073701

For some reason the fix failed again.
Please restart the machine and perform the step in message #57 again.

Re: Windows 7 Won't Update - Error Code 80073701

I restarted the machine and followed the instructions in message 57. When I restarted the machine, I chose Restart rather than Shutdown, because shutdown would have tried to update before shutting down. I hope that was the correct choice.

Here are the Fixlog.txt and SearchReg.txt files.

Thank you

1. Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
2. Right-click on FRST64.exe and select "Run as administrator".
3. Press the Fix button.
4. The tool will now process fixlist.txt.
5. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
6. When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
7. Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2:
FRST Registry Search
1. Click your Start button and choose Control Panel.
2. In the upper right corner ensure the View by: is set to Category.
3. Select the Programs group.
4. Click the Turn Windows features on or off link. This will bring up the Server Manager dialog.
Note: This loads your components hive which is what we want. Please keep this dialog open while you perform the remaining steps. You can minimize it if you wish but keep it open.
5. Right-click on the file FRST64.exe and choose Run as administrator.
6. Copy and paste KB4019264 into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
7. When the scan is complete, a message will display that 'SearchReg.txt' is saved in the same folder FRST was started from. Notepad will open this file also. Close Notepad and attach the file 'SearchReg.txt' to your next reply.
8. You may close any remaining open windows now.

Re: Windows 7 Won't Update - Error Code 80073701

It worked!!! It seemed like the update installed completely, but I haven't checked the windows update history, because I didn't want to do anything that might mess something up.

It looked like the update installed successfully, but I figured I should wait until you tell me if there's anything else that needs to be done.

Thank you!!

Re: Windows 7 Won't Update - Error Code 80073701

Great, which other Windows Updates are available ?

Re: Windows 7 Won't Update - Error Code 80073701

I ran Windows Update and had it search for updates. It came back saying there were no new updates and 14 optional ones. None of the optional ones seemed needed, except maybe the service pack for sql server.

Also, we had turned off the automatic windows update feature in this process. Do you think I should re-enable that, or leave it off and manually run windows update periodically?

Thank you

Re: Windows 7 Won't Update - Error Code 80073701

Yes, you can re-enable WU or select Download updates but let me choose whether to install them.
