Win 10: Corrupt Components

Ok, If it fails the upgrade then we can check the install logs to see if we can fix the problems reported.

Don't have a pendrive or dvd ready, so I'm trying the media creation tool. Do you know where it stores the logs?

There are several logs depending on the installation phase and the type of error you get.

I have some doubts that using the tool to immediately upgrade will work because that method will depend more on the files that are already downloaded by Windows and the system state...

Report any error you got and what exactly happens if it fails.

After a few minutes I get a small "ok" dialog saying the windows 10 installation has failed. No reboot or so happened yet.
I will search for a pen drive waiting for your reply.

Same here. Last percentage I saw was 36%. Shortly after same dialog :(
I will run another chkdsk overnight. Tty2morrow.

Can you try to collect those logs

The following log files are created when an upgrade is successful:
C:\Windows\Panther\Setupact.log
C:\Windows\panther\setuperr.log
C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.app.log
C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log
C:\Windows\panther\PreGatherPnPList.log
C:\Windows\panther\PostApplyPnPList.log
C:\Windows\panther\miglog.xml

Are you sure about the panther folders? I see none of the files you mentioned, but I have setupact.log and setuperr.log in both "C:\Windows\Panther\NewOs\Panther" as well as "C:\Windows\Panther\UnattendGC".
I have found and attached setupapi.dev.log though. Instead of *.app.* I only found setup, offline and upgrade though.

I ran chkdsk from my bootable pen drive and it completed without errors.
No progress on sfc, the feature update or dism though.

I even tried dism /Source:<pendrive> without success. Why doesn't it work even with a clean source and scratch dir? Can I maybe run it from my pendrive as well?

Sorry I selected the wrong block of files those are for a successful upgrade...

The information about the logs is on this page https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...d-when-you-upgrade-to-a-new-version-of-window

In your case most likely the logs will be on the hidden folder C:\$Windows.~BT\...

You can only do that if the flash drive have the exact same Edition and version of Windows 10 that is installed and usually it doesn't help much because the installed system is more updated that the install DVD/flash many of the corrupted/missing files are not there...

Attached are the other files that I could find.

It seems my pendrive is 10.0.17134, while my disk still has 10.0.16299, if that helps.

Hi,

Try to run the setup from the flash drive to do the upgrade but this time with the Internet disconnected.

If using Ethernet disconnect the cable, or in Wireless check if there is some switch to disconnect the wireless card.

Post the new setupact.log

Hi,

It seems that we need to work on fixing dism or it would not be possible to do an upgrade, only a clean install.

Can you post the result of Dism /online /Get-Drivers

Same error about not being able to access the temporary directory :(
Code:
PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> Dism /online /Get-Drivers /English

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.16299.15

Error: 1392

An error occurred accessing the temporary folder C:\Users\gs\AppData\Local\Temp\BD9F678E-1122-4D2E-902F-F403F7D269A8.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

Hi,

Lets try this and see if we get lucky with dism...

SFCFix Script

!!! WARNING !!! The following fix is only relevant for this system and no other, applying this fix on another computer will not work and most likely will cause problems...
  • Download SFCFix.exe (by Niemiro) and save it to the Desktop
  • Download the file Zifix.zip and save this to your Desktop
  • On your Desktop, make sure you have the two files:
    myjIXnC.png
    SFCFix.exe and
    sfpcJCen14An3ndjNGCI7mByhjHJud.png
    Zifix.zip
  • Drag the file Zifix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it
  • The SFCFix tool will process the script
  • Upon completion, a log file SFCFix.txt should be created on your Desktop
  • Open the SFCFix.txt log and copy & paste the contents to your post

That was a bunch of files, but unfortunately dism remains stubborn :(
