[Win7HomePremium] Unable to install Service Pack 1

Re: Unable to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1

Thanks. Try to install SP1 again and let me know the results. If it fails, please zip/attach your CBS.log.

Re: Unable to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1

Please start with the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Hey Brian,
I was just wondering if you have been able to read the script I posted for you. Thanks.

Re: Unable to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1

Hey Brian,
Was wondering if you got a chance to see the script I posted. Thanks!

Re: Unable to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1

Looks like it's a different one this time so it got past the first error.

Code:
2017-01-23 14:12:02, Error CBS Failed to resolve package 'Package_2_for_[COLOR=#FF0000]KB2533623[/COLOR]~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.2' [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]

We likely need to clean up the registry a little however we always try the easier approach first. Please do the following.

Remove Update Manually
1. Click on the Start
Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, press enter
wusa /uninstall /KB:2533623

4. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

Re: Unable to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1

We have another one to clean up.
Code:
2017-01-30 22:14:58, Error CBS Failed to resolve package 'Package_1_for_KB2647753~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.3.1' [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]

I'd like to keep trying this approach for at least a few more if you are OK with it. I'll put together a fix for this update.

Hi Bryan,
Sounds good. I am fine to keep running those scripts.
Let me know.

Re: Unable to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1

This one has been a toughy. I can't find the update that you have anywhere. You appear to have a V3 update and only V2 is available which is odd. Do you happen to have your Windows 7 Media (i.e. DVD)?

I don't, unfortunately. This computer is fairly old and I bought it with Windows already installed I believe.

Re: Unable to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1

I'll need to look at your hives. Please do the following.

Step#1 - Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to SendSpace and just provide the link here.

Step#2 - Export CBS Registry Key

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing

  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
  6. Name this file CBS (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.

Once done please upload this file via Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace.

Step#3 - Export SideBySide

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide
  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
  6. Name this file SxS (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.

Once done please upload this file via Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace.
