Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Just want to let you know that NetIO Legacy TDI Support Driver" is code 24 is back in Device Manager. I have applied the action from post #84 and awaiting next steps.

Uninstalled KB3014406 and internet is back :) Rebooted twice and internet is OK. Checked event logs and there is an Event 7026 stating that tdx failed to load. Thought I would mention this since tdx has been part of this thread?

What next? I started with not being able to update certain windows updates? Many of them were the monthly cumulative security updates.

Geez, I am certainly relieved that I can access the internet again.

Continued thanks ....

Excellent. The first thing I would do (before re-installing Avast) is to try and install the following update.
Access Denied

Let me know if it installs OK and that you still have internet once it's done.

Before I forget I used the hide updates for the updates that failed ... at some point can I restore these hidden updates?

Yes I would go ahead and unhide all updates and attempt to install them all. Reboot when prompted...then check for updates again and attempt install all again until you have only the ones that fail (if any).

OK I will. I am very curious as to what pointed you at KB3014406 as the culprit of blocking the "NetIO Legacy TDI Support Driver". That update was installed in 2014.

Also have a lot of CBSpersist files ... is it safe to delete them?

Thanks and I will attempt to install the windows updates.

The issue you had was a known issue many years ago. I haven't seen it in at least five years. I was just looking for updates that were related to this by googling it and found that info.

Yes

Thanks and I will attempt to install the windows updates.
OK, let me know how it goes.

All updates taken without error. I still have not taken the new .NET Framework 4.7 yet ... still mulling that one over.

Thanks for all of your assistance and please mark this issue "Resolved".
