It has come to our attention at there has been a recent explosion of people reporting corruptions with the CNBJ2530.DPB file in Windows 8 and 8.1.

This post aims to outline both how to determine whether your computer is affected and how to repair it should it be. Unfortunately, we have yet to identify the root cause for this corruption at this time but it is part of an ongoing investigation here, and we shall be sharing all of our findings with Microsoft when appropriate to lead, if at all possible, to a final resolution.

First, to confirm whether or not you are affected by a corruption of this file, please perform the following:

  1. Press the Windows Key on your keyboard and X to open up the Power User Tasks Menu
  2. Click (or tap) Command Prompt (admin)
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue (approximately 15 minutes)
This program, included as standard with all modern copies of Microsoft Windows, will first scan your system files for corruption and will then provide its analysis in a machine friendly form. We shall therefore be using another program, SFCFix (developed here at Sysnative by niemiro) to interpret this data into a more human friendly format.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  3. Double click on SFCFix.exe to open it.
  4. Follow all on screen instructions and upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
This logfile will automatically open. If SFCFix has successfully repaired the corruption, the logfile will contain the following line:

Code:
AutoAnalysis::
FIXED: Performed DISM repair on file Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB of version 6.3.9600.16384.

The version number will change depending on the version of Windows 8 you are running, but that line signifies that the issue has been successfully repaired. That's it - you're now good to go. If SFCFix reports other corruptions, then please start a thread of your own. Include your CBS folder (per the Windows Update Forum Posting Instructions) and the contents of the SFCFix.txt.

If you are having issues with the automated method, the old manual guide is below:

If you have any questions regarding this tutorial, let me know. If you are unsure about anything, just ask!

Hey Stephen,

Just to let you know, I have removed the link for 6.3.9600.16384 as the script contains an error. It drops the file in the root folder, not in the .\amd64 folder. Hope you don't mind me editing your post, but I wanted to pull this before anyone else makes the mistake - I just did it on my friend's computer and realised what the issue was :)

Thank you so much Tom. I was sure I double checked these scripts, but apparently not.

I will address this now

EDIT - Scripts fixed and updated.

I,ve been having all sorts of trouble with my Asus laptop running 8.1 for at least a month now. I've finally come across this advice and followed the instructions for the fix for: C:\WINDOWS\winsxs\amd64_prncacla.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16384_none_9590ba64d5b91f79\Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB. However, whenever I run it this is what I get:
PowerCopy::

I am not an expert user and to be honest this means very little to me but it looks to me as if this is all referring to a different file to the one I am trying to repair. I have downloaded from the dropbox link twice to make sure I have been clicking on the link indicated but this keeps happening. Is the link to the wrong file? Please give me some advice. Thanks.

Hi,

You're right, something is wrong. I think there's a wrong link somewhere.

I am away all weekend without my laptop, so cannot fix it this weekend.

Fixed :) Temporarily hosting it from my Dropbox until you're back.

Links should be fixed now.

Re: GUIDE: CNBJ2530.DPB and prncacla.inf Corruptions - Windows 8/8.1

Excellent - many thanks. My problem appears to now be fixed. It's been a real headache for well over a month.
I'm really grateful that you guys have worked out a fix for this problem otherwise this laptop would have been going through a window soon!

Re: GUIDE: CNBJ2530.DPB and prncacla.inf Corruptions - Windows 8/8.1

Hi, I'm sorry to say that the problem that I had which the advice on this thread cured has recurred. In fact it has recurred shortly after each time I have rerun the fix. It is still the problem with C:\WINDOWS\winsxs\amd64_prncacla.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16384_none_9590ba64d5b91f79\Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB
that shows after I run sfc /scannow.
Do you have any further thoughts on this as the laptop is back to where it was before.
Thanks in advance

Re: GUIDE: CNBJ2530.DPB and prncacla.inf Corruptions - Windows 8/8.1

To anyone still experiencing issues with this file, can you start a new thread of your own in the Windows Update forum please and we'll do our best to help you out.

Windows Update - Sysnative Forums

@avo, thank you for taking the time to register and share your experiences with us! So many users cruise through here without even saying thank you to Stephen, but then we get a few like yourself who go above and beyond the call of duty and make it all worth it. We've had fairly high success rates with that dism command, but I think there have been a few cases where it hasn't worked, so Stephen kindly wrote up this tutorial :)

Re: GUIDE: CNBJ2530.DPB and prncacla.inf Corruptions - Windows 8/8.1

To me, fixing this issues was as simple as running the following (from Admin command prompt):

Code:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Then
Code:
SFC /scannow
reports no errors.

More info: Use System Update Readiness tool to fix Windows Update errors

Hi,

Indeed, the DISM tool can be used to fix this error. However, as Tom said, I have seen cases where it doesn't work, hence this guide.

---

However, since the DISM tool seems to be working often now, I have added it to the tutorial. The guide now has two methods for repairing the corruption, DISM and the SFCFix script. I have also removed the Windows 7 style from performing SFC /Scannow, since the corruptions only affect Windows 8.

Re: GUIDE: CNBJ2530.DPB and prncacla.inf Corruptions - Windows 8/8.1

My particular corrupted file is: C:\WINDOWS\winsxs\amd64_prncacla.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16384_none_9590ba64d5b91f79\Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB. I followed all your guidelines actually twice (yesterday and today) and the file is evidently still corrupted. Here is today's SFCFix.txt: SFCFix version 2.0.2.1 by niemiro.Start time: 2013-12-13 02:31:01.130

Hi Mike,

Try this:

Command Prompt

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

  4. Right-click on the Command Prompt window and click Select All, this will invert all of the colours by selecting the text, now press enter. All of this text is now copied.

Actually Tom it did not fix the corrupted file. I restarted Windows Media Center Scheduler Service and closed Services, I reopened Services and Windows Media Center Scheduler Service had stopped again. I will start a new thread.

Re: GUIDE: CNBJ2530.DPB and prncacla.inf Corruptions - Windows 8/8.1

Thank you so much for the postings here. I had this problem with a corrupted CNBJ2530.DPB and was able to fix it using DISM. Before reading about this problem I had no awareness about DISM or it's capability. Thank you.
