Windows 10 updates failing and SFC/DISM corruption

Yes... And it will continue like this until it is resolved. ;)

I'll be back.

Hello :-)

It seems DISM has run a bit farther than before again, but still fails with the same error message. So it seems that another file has been repaired and the CBS logs would point to a new damaged one... It's a bit frustating (for we both) that DISM would not flag all the corrupted files at once, but instead one file each time...

Thanks for your help and your time :-)

Hello again :-)

It seems DISM has found another corrupted file, with the same error message. I have attached the screen capture, the SFCFix log and the last CBS log. Hope they are useful.

Hi again :-)

It seems DISM has found yet another corrupted file, with the same error message. As always, I have attached the screen capture, the SFCFix log and the last CBS log.

Just a question: Is there some way to find how those files got corrupted, so it can be prevented in the future?

Thanks again for your help.

Hi,

There are several reasons for this kind of corruptions, like forced shutdowns, system crashes, harddrive or memory corruptions. It is difficult to ascertain what the exact cause was. To avoid these problems or even worse, is to make regular backups.

But, here is the next fix..

Thanks for you reply. The only thing I remember is that the computer did suspend several times and finally was shutdown (not a forced shutdown) when the last cumulative update was being installed (it did not finish installing, no message about updates appeared while shuting down or on the next boot). I checked the hard disk before posting at this forum with the Seagate Seatools program, both the short and long tests and came up clean. I'll do a memory test...

I ran the last fix, it seems another file was repaired and then DISM found another corrupted file. Another little improve :-)

I have attached the screen capture, the SFCFix log and the last CBS log (it seems an update was being installed in the background? I didn't notice...)

Thank you :-)

Sorry for not replying in the past days.

I ran the last fix yesterday. The DISM scan has now stopped at 38,5% (it has improved) and the error message is different. Now it reports "Error 605: The specified buffer contains ill formed data." And, as far as I have tried to read the CBS log, now it seems to report a few files at a time ;)

I have attached the screen capture, the SFCFix log and the last CBS log.

If you need more information or more files to diagnose this new "error 605", please, let me know.

Thank you :-)

Hello again :-)

The DISM scan has stopped at 44,5%, so it's another improve. It reports the "Error 4448" with the current corrupted file.

I have attached the screen capture, the SFCFix log and the CBS log.

If you need any more information or files, please, tell me.

Thanks you :-)

Hi again :-)

This time, DISM stopped at a lower percent, 44,4%, don't know if it means anything. This time it reports a 605 error.

The screen capture, the SFCFix log and the last CBS log are attached (unless I forget them again :D)

Windows Update seems to be retrying doing updates in the background... Do you want me to let it try (so far, it always fails to install updates) or should I pause the updates?

Thank for your time and your help.
