[SOLVED] Windows 7 64-bit can't update nor run SFC

Good. One more fix please.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.


  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

OK, let's see what's left. Please do the following.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
    button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

    Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.
 
completed 100% however still getting a could not fix message. The cbs.txt file unzipped is 115 MB so I zipped it to a tad more than 6 mb. If you like I could rename the current one and have it create a new smaller log on the next run. let me know. Anyway here is the link for the zipped txt file. https://www.sendspace.com/file/05xnth

Excellent. Please do the following again. I expect it to finish but report errors but I believe they will only be one or two that we need to fix a different way.

Please run the System Update Readiness Tool again and provide log. I would suggest that you delete all copies that you have previously downloaded and download a fresh one.

System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
 1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.
 
It seems to be taking much longer than before. It's not hung though cause there seems to be a lot of harddrive activity.
 
I've seen it run for a few hours before so it's not uncommon. You are correct it is likely doing something this time. Let's let it go until complete. I'm going to turn in for the evening and I'll check back tomorrow morning.

OK there was a fair amount of corruption here. You likely have a hardware issue..probably a bad memory stick but we'll address that in a bit.

Please do the following.

somehow I got a file sfcfix.txt rather than sfcscript and ran the sfcfix.txt Going to rerun using sfcscript.
 
FYI it took 3 downloads to finally get SURT running but it is now. You mentioned that there could be a memory issue. The computer is fairly new and is running dual channel Corsairs I'll look up where they were purchased just in case they need to be replaced. I probably won't be around much till after 9 or 10 PM est as well. Ill post the results before I leave.

getting that now.. I got tied up looking for RAM.. the SURT failed after a bit .. I'll have those results in about 4 mins
