Windows 7 CheckSUR unavailable manifest files

Please be patient. We are just volunteers helping in our free time.

Some AV programs may mistakenly detect FRST as infected. FRST is 100% clean.
Disable the AVG real-time protection when downloading and using FRST.

Thanks for the advice - I suspected FRST was OK, but just being paranoic (AVG hadn't reported a problem with it previously). Anyway I ran it and attach the fixlog.txt file.
I'm now running checkSUR.
And to show good faith, and because a lot of progress has already been made in a problem which has been lurking (and which I have been avoiding facing up to) for years, namely Win 7 update not working, I have donated an interim US$50 to your site via PayPal. Thanks very much! David

Thanks for the donation. (y)

Step 1:
Warning: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Do not run this script on another machine.
  1. Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on FRST64.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  3. Press the Fix button.
  4. The tool will now process fixlist.txt.
  5. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  6. When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  7. Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2:
Start the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again.
On completion, attach the logfile C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log to your next reply.

I did more Updates before getting your last message - 59 important ones. The only snag was Microsoft Report Viewer Redist. 2008 (KB971118) which required an unavailable network resource. The I restarted, and ran FRST (fixlog.text attached).
Then trying to run checkSUR, I cancelled it after a long time (1-2 hours) because it just persisted with Searching for updates on this computer.
Then I ran Windows Update again - 1 important update required. Install - after a short time it reported The updates were successfully installed. Not needed: 1 update.
So I am going to try the upgrade to Win 10 now, which was the reason for the whole checkSUR exercise. If that works then I'll re-clone the system (on an old spinning disk) to my new SSD.
I'll report back in due course.
Thanks again. Another donation will be due.

Following my previous post -
Running setup.exe from the Win 10 install DVD
'Getting Updates ... Checking for updates' has been running for 1.5 hours now without any apparent progress - this can't be right.
But I'll leave it overnight anyway.

I cancelled the 'Getting Updates' after 4 hours. The Setup is cleaning is now taking forever.
So now I appear to have a pretty well updated Win 7 system, but still can't progress beyond that.
Further help would be very much appreciated.

Attach the zipped cbs.log to your next reply.

Attach the file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CbsPersist_20200925130916.cab to your next reply.

I had to zip it as the platform wouldn't allow a cab file type.
But at 8.6 MB it rejects the file saying it's too large.
Any way I can edit (split/chop) the cab file before zipping?

Disconnect all devices that are not required.
Shutdown the desktop completely and wait 10 seconds.
Restart and Check Windows Update again and report the result.
If it fails, attach the zipped cbs.log to your next reply.

Hello, I did as you said. In Windows Update I selected 2 important updates:
- 2019-09 Security monthly quality roll-up
- 2019010 Update for Win 7 ... x64.
It then downloaded them for 2.5 hours till I killed it.
I retried, just selecting the second one - same thing after one hour.
Here is a link to the zipped CBS file. It's huge presumably because it is continually updating during the long run:

CBS.zip

Remove Update Manually
  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt.
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.
    wusa /uninstall /KB:4532945
  4. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

Sorry, the uninstall did not work. After 20 seconds or so:
- Installer encountered an error: 0x8000ffff
- Catastrophic failure
So what next?

FRST Registry Search
  1. Click the Start button and choose Control Panel.
  2. In the upper right corner ensure the View by: is set to Category.
  3. Select the Programs group.
  4. Click the Turn Windows features on or off link. This will bring up the Server Manager dialog.
Note: This loads your components hive which is what we want. Please keep this dialog open while you perform the remaining steps. You can minimize it if you wish but keep it open.
  5. Right-click on the file FRST64.exe and choose Run as administrator.
  6. Copy and paste KB4532945 into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
  7. When the scan is complete, a message will display that 'SearchReg.txt' is saved in the same folder FRST was started from. Notepad will open this file also. Close Notepad and attach the file 'SearchReg.txt' to your next reply.
  8. You may close any remaining open windows now.

At (4) above I get the 'Turn Windows...' window; Please wait ... [takes about 30 sec] but then the new window is blank, with the instruction 'To turn a feature on ...'
So I can't do anything other than OK or Cancel. I've also tried just waiting for a couple of minutes but the window doesn't change.

FRST Registry Search
  1. Open the Commandprompt with Run as administrator.
  2. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.
    Code:
    REG LOAD HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS
  3. Leave the CommandPrompt window open while you perform the remaining steps. You can minimize it if you wish but keep it open.
  4. Right-click on the file FRST64.exe and choose Run as administrator.
  5. Copy and paste KB4532945 into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
  6. When the scan is complete, a message will display that 'SearchReg.txt' is saved in the same folder FRST was started from. Notepad will open this file also. Close Notepad and attach the file 'SearchReg.txt' to your next reply.
  7. You may close any remaining open windows now.
