Windows 7 updates KB2901983 & KB3001652 fail with error 643

Hi cafe,

Please attempt installation of KB2901983 using Windows Update, and let me know the result.

Hi cafe,

Thanks for your patience thus far. This certainly is a strange case - if you recall, KB2901983 was successfully installed earlier.

Please go ahead and reattempt installation of KB2901983. When it fails, immediately run the Collect programme and provide vslogs.zip in your next reply.

Thank you.

Hello,

Apologies for the delay.

The script executed successfully. Was installation of the update successful after executing the script?

Hello,

Thank you again for your patience - .NET Framework issues can be particularly difficult to deal with.

Please refer to the following article:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/976982

Scroll down to Method 2: Repair the .NET Framework and run the repair tool. Attempt installation of the update after running the tool, and let me know how you get on.

Sorry for the delay, I was away for the holidays. It failed to install. Should I proceed to Method 3?

Hi cafe,

Yes, at this stage it is worth attempting method 3. Should this option fail, I will say that we will have just about ran out of troubleshooting options, and will need to look towards a more aggressive approach (such as a repair install of Windows).

Please let me know how you get on with method 3.

Thank you for all of your help. It looks like we succeeded after doing Method 3, although I never got an acknowledgment when I installed .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pac 1, saying it was installed. After that I was able to install KB2901983.

Hi cafe,

Now that the update has installed, are there any outstanding issues with the computer?

Thanks for following up. I thought I was done with KB2901983, however a subsequent optional update for the language pack with the same KB2901983 number came up, and it will not install. I tried the recent method that worked and no luck.

I'm going to be away for a few days and will attempt the Repair Install when I return next week. I will keep you posted on my progress.

Okay, thank you.

Please ensure you have an adequate back up of your personal files prior to performing the repair install.

Thank you for the advice. I have an HP computer and I'm unable to download the Windows 7 Ultimate repair install through Microsoft. After I entered my product key I was advised to contact my device manufacturer. HP apparently does not provide the repair software, and were more interested with charging me money, so they could have access to my computer. Is there anywhere else I can download the Windows 7 Ultimate repair install software?

Unfortunately, there are no other authorized sites where you can download the ISO from. Are you able to obtain the ISO file or installation disc from a friend or family member?
